Fat tire
« on: August 12, 2024, 08:26:00 PM »

Anyone here have a fat tire kit on their bike? More and more I am becoming interested in them and while in sturgis my wife told me to start looking into it. A buddy of mine did one a few years ago but was just wondering if anyone has done it to theirs. I just wanna do the 18in not the bigger ones.

What kit did you go with and what fender? Did it change the height of the front end? We put a 21” rim on my wife’s bike and you can feel the difference in the front end. Getting quotes for everything and I knew the paint would be expensive but damn  :-\

Do you have strap it in a trailer? When I strap mine down I run the strap through a microfiber between the fender and forks, I was told that there won’t be room to do that with the kit so trying to figure how to strap it in if I do the kit.

Go over the axle instead of the fender strut.

I thought about that but wouldn’t that put extra strain on the spacers or bearings?

Already have a 7x14 with e track and condor chocks set up, and not going to go through the hassle of taking down the underside of the toy hauler to mount two biker bars. 😁

I've been doing it that way for a long time and never had an issue.

Might have to go that way, over the axle. I used the crash bar for the first few times but blew a fork seal on the wife’s bike and then started going around the forks. I thought about going with the crash bar again but putting a wood block under the frame to keep the suspension from compressing. Over the axle is compelling now if I order the kit.

I've seen pix of crash bars bending because of people getting too crazy with the straps. They're meant to give on impact to an extent to absorb some of the brunt of impact. Handlebars are another one to stay away from.

I've had Native Custom Baggers fat tire set ups on my last three bikes. They can fix you up and answer any questions you might have.

Ciro sells front and rear tie down brackets for fixed fairing and bat wings. I put the front brackets on my Road Glide and it makes strapping it down a breeze.

I think native might be tired of answering my emails, been emailing them questions all week 😁. I think I am going to do it, but need to save some pennys first. One last question for you guys that have done it, did you have to take the bike in to have the tpms reset? I have it on my bike and just thought about that, I will do the install myself.
