General information
« on: August 05, 2025, 05:41:59 PM »

Okay I have tried to upload a video twice, and each time the video is too big. I wanted you guys to hear this bike.
I inherited Dads 2005 Harley-Davidson FLHTCUI Utra Classic Electra Glide. CVO 103 .
I come from a biker family and left for the army at 18, got into sport bikes, and owned a few Harleys in my time, but never got into the performance side.
Just looking for any information that may be helpful. this bike runs like a monster. it has 45k on it as of today. and here is its current build according to my dad.
Screaming eagle cam chest kit with oil pump 257 cams and gear drive. Rinehart exhaust, pistons changed compression at 9;6;1 custom dyno tune , used to have a
Vance and Hines fuel pack. Ultima 6 speed transmission.   It feels like the cams come on around 2600, and they come on hard. and the bike wants to pull past 6k
my dad told me not to lug this engine to keep the rpms above 2800. he also said the cam go from 3k to approx 7k.  I just picked the bike up from Nola Harley Davidson
Had a full service done,  that included greasing and adjusting cables,  changing wheel bearings, full fluid service. and new from brake pads. Had the motor mounts inspected
along with Swing arm bushings. everything is good to go..
is there anything I need to look out for with this bike ?
I am also told by my dad that this is a bullet proof engine, that he would have no issue taking from San Diego to Maine and back. I am planning on attending sturgis next yr,
if I was on my R1, I would know what sounds and smells to be aware of ,  any advice on what to look out for, my dad is 74 and is starting mental decline, so , its hard to talk Harleys with him.
I came here do to lack of information on the internet. everything is read is that 257 cams are crap, my dad loves them and he is 6'3 235 lbs.

Couple of questions.  What color is the bike?  Is it a true CVO or an Ultra with a CVO motor?  Reason I ask is the 2005 CVO was an Electra Glide (FLHTCSE2) not an Ultra.  He is right the 103” CVO motor is very reliable.  The only issue you’d need to worry about is the cam chain tensioners but it sounds like that’s been taken care of with the gear drive.

That bike is what most of us referred to as a Banana (due to the color).

The 103" was a great motor and the 04 and 04 SEEG (Screamin Eagle Electra Glide) was one of the most popular models of all the CVO's and has always got a lot of attention where ever it went.  That bike will get a lot more attention than your R1 did.

Pretty sure you don't have anything to look or watch for......just ride it enough to where you'll become very familiar with the sound.

On a side note, if your photos are to large then you have to resize them and you can only post one photo in each post unless you have them hosted someplace else.

Sorry to hear about your father's cognitive decline.   Was he a member of this forum?   We're the same age and I've been pounding down the miles before I'm no longer able to.  You might be interested in seeing these photos of a ride that I put together back in 2005.....

No, My Dad Hated computers, makes me laugh, Ohh the Anger.
Thanks for the Clarification of the Color Scheme.
The Bike runs really well, easy to control tracks beautifully down the road.
Needs a good detail. I have been looking for  a exact banana yellow paint match, There are a few areas I would like to touch up.
Other then that she runs good.
I am not sure of the gear ratios, on the freeway, it seems like the 6th gear is more of an overdrive gear, at 80-85, I am turning around 2600 rpms, by the time I am in the mid 3k range I am doing 110 or so.
I wish I had a camshaft card, so I could see the specs, I feel this is due to the power range being moved up. its not sluggish by any means , it gets up and goes.
Anyways thank you for the information.

2600 rpm while cruising is fine.  Stock transmission, cruising at speed, always seemed like it needed another gear.

That is a True CVO Electra Glide. The 103 engines were awesome.
My 2004 idled like a Top Fuel Dragster.
