Which way is up?
« on: April 10, 2007, 11:34:39 PM »

Picking up my new Serk next week. Spending all this wait time reading posts to gain all the needed info on these new 110's. While browsing thru the break in procedure in the owners manual, It says do not excced 3000 RPM for the first 50 miles, then not to exceed 4000 for next 500 miles.  ???That's a big difference from the procedures that most on here have adopted. Now I'm not sure what what's the best way to go. Any experienced advise would be welcomed. :nixweiss:

Also planning on running it syock during the break-in, primarily because dynos in these parts are almost non-existant, to say nothing of capable tuners. Another problem is that the powercommander site does not seem to have ant realistic preliminary maps for Supertrapp SE's and K&N AC set-up, which I plan to do after break-in.Wouls love to leave it stock and install PC111 to slightly correct AF eatio, again which does not seem to be an easily obtainable option. :'( :nixweiss:

6th gear @ 3000 rpm is over 70 mph.  The dealer told me to just ride it - not redline it.  I kept it under 3k and under 4k as recommended.  Best to vary rpm's/speed the first 50-100 miles or so IMHO.  Best to occasionally vary speed/rpms during break in period.  By 500 miles, I was ready to air the bike out, so I did.

There are reasons other than engine related for lower break in speeds - brake pads, etc.  Engine is the main reason of course.

Two schools of thought on this; run it like you ride it or baby it per the book. All agree though; don't lug it. I follow the book on new scoots and things go fine.

Some good reading in both.

PS: Congrats on the new scoot.....

I broke mine in per the manual and varied engine speeds...but Screamin said, most important, do not lug the engine.  But then again that is something that you always avoid doing.  By breaking in according to the manual, I (knock on wood), have not experienced any problems yet, but I've only got 2k on it right now.

My SERK owners manual 99763-07, has different break in parameters: during the first 50 miles, keep engine speed below 4000 in any gear, no lugging or over reving.  Up to 500 miles, vary engine speed.... engine speed up to 5000 RPM in any gear is permissible.

I guess us Canucks get the International models and they want us to take great care of it as we are further away and therefore more expensive for warranty. ;D  Kidding aside, I'm going to put my glasses on and re-read that paragraph! :nixweiss:

Ok, I will check my owners manual when I get home, but figure it is 4k & 5k.
