Hello, first time poster. Been wanting to join this for some time. Please excuse my rooky mistakes.
I have a 2008 Road King CVO, 110cui. 55k miles, doubled the miles since I have owned, about 5 years. Live in Southern AZ.
Returning from Sturgis a couple weeks ago she finally died, just about to roll into Az on the final leg. Only second time going, 10 years the first, not a fan of the event but great riding. Everything died, no electric. No mechanical noises or issues. Just died. Battery was at 0.0 volts and stator failed all three tests after new battery. I am working on the stator and decided to "polish the outer primary case instead of removing to get to stator. Yes, one of those. I found the rotor looked rough, and inside of stator housing also scratched up. Outside of rotor is clean though? Compensator is beaten up pretty good as well so ordered new one. Never had any steel flakes in oil, just typical worn material. First time this has been done to my knowledge, bike had just over 20K when I purchased. 3rd owner. A couple years ago, I did have top end done by shop as had a chirp, lifter to cam failure. As you can see, the stator has build up of carbon on 3 of the windings, one a whole lot of build up where you could not see the winding. Only thing unique on these is that they are closest to the front cyl. Heat I am guessing? Just sharing, any input is always appreciated. I did the clutch and all three holes prior to departure for SD.
