M8 compensator wear
« on: October 11, 2025, 03:32:55 PM »

Hello. My M8 is “Clacking” from the primary area, strange word I know but it’s not clanging or clicking, this occurs when I blip the throttle in neutral. I assume it’s the compensator. I know I shouldn’t but on occasion I do lug it in a low gear so I assume I have abused the compensator.
I am about to strip it down, how do I assess if the springs and/ or the compensator are worn. If the compensator is ok after following your assessment do I replace the springs with stock or Screaming Eagle or another make.
Your advice would be appreciated.
Regards

I would check all the obvious while you have the cover off…
Clutch basket and plates
Nuts and bolts that keeps it all together

Primary chain and adjuster
Compensator and spring pack. Especially the comp ramp. I hear they are prone to cracking.

Just for reference, my own 2019 M8 is still using the stock clutch and all primary parts, this is at 106000 miles.
Only upgrades are AIM SDR clutch hat and Fueling compensating spring to replace the stock small spring.
Holding 140 TQ since 2020.
