2007 CVO Road King Neutral Light Not Working
« on: October 13, 2025, 03:17:49 PM »

Hello,

Has anyone experienced an electrical short that prevents the neutral light from coming on? If so, where did it occur on the bike?

On the 07 it's two wires to the neutral switch, one tan and one black. The neutral switch and neutral light test ok. I ask about a short because testing the tan and black neutral switch wires shows 12v, but when I introduce a load (test light) to the circuit the volts drop to 0.7v and will not turn on the test light. Test light tested ok on alternate source too. Cleaned all the connectors and I am in the process of back probing them to narrow this down but no luck yet.

Thank you,
Tekkman

Tekkman, Have you physically removed the neutral switch in the transmission housing?

If not inspect and clean it off on the underside?

Crazy suggestion...I worked on my friends FB last year. Had a similair problem. Ends up mice crawled up into his console made a nest and chewed his wires. The coating is made of soy bean extract.

I am open to all ideas, but nothing like that going on here! Wires look good so far.

I can never remember which years are which way, but on some years the switch complete the neutral light circuit and in others it breaks the circuit.  So there are switches that work both way.  If you jump across the two wires does the neutral light come on?  If it does clean or replace the switch.  If it doesn't just start tracing the circuit.  No one can tell you where to look because the problem could be anywhere along the line.

Mine completes the circuit and fails to illuminate the neutral light when jumped. Working through it, so hopefully I will come across the problem soon.

The switch was my problem when the neutral light quit working on my 07.

Was gonna ask about you having a wiring diagram but easy to post one.

Never overlook something so simple as a burnt out bulb.

I have the wiring diagram but thank you for posting. I have narrowed it down to no power at pin 6 (O - Orange wire) on the PCB indicators component. Apparently, the turn signals and high beam lights work on different power as they all illuminate. My Neutral and just now noticed that my oil low pressure light both do not illuminate. These two lights are ground triggered.

To test ground, I jumped from the positive side of my batt to pin 6 and neutral and oil lights illuminate. So, that tells my board is good and ground is good leaving no power on pin 6 as the issue. Currently working up the harness from indicator PCB to find where I am losing pwr. Gotta pull the tank now...

If proving the circuit at the switch doesn't make the light come on go to the other end.  Take the dash off the tank, unplug the connector to the LED bar, and check the wire that feeds that LED.  If it follows with the neutral switch it's time to replace that little LED light assembly in the dash.  I've replaced a small number of those over the years for a light being dead.  It's an LED so you have to replace the whole thing.  Never know for sure until you look but it's far more likely (if you know for sure the neutral switch down low is good) that the light module up on the tank is bad than that you've got a wiring problem in between.

Honestly I'd rather have a wiring problem in between.  It's only one line, easy to trace, and when found costs nothing to fix.  That silly little light bar is now about $125 from Mother Harley.  I'd chase one on eBay for cheap before buying that.  It's not a piece that dies that often and there should be plenty.  It was the same all the way back to 1999 and continued on for several years after your year.

Thanks Twolanerider, I had a blown instrument fuse (orange wire) which restored the low-pressure light and fuel guage, but not the neutral light. After retesting it was the LED on the PCB. I replaced the PCB with a new one and the neutral light is now working.
