I’ve got a 2009 FXSTSSE3 in yellow with flames that I want to do upswept exhaust pipes with cocktail shaker mufflers (old school chopper type pipes) and it looks like I’ll have to do a rear turn signals off delete/relocation. I’ve found a rear tail light that contains brake light/running light and turn signals. Has anyone removed their rear turn signals? If so, what did you film the holes with?

Also trying to find actual pipes that will work on the bike. Paughco has what I want and I’m waiting for a reply as to whether they’ll work or not.  Has anyone done this to their CVO springer??

The recurring "problem" you will find is the 240 rear tyre on the 2009.

2007 and 2008 can just fit "ordinary" Softail exhaust systems that bolt right on. All 200 rear tyre.

240 rear the exhaust has to "kick out" a tad, that's why most online exhaust listings say "except 2009 FXSTSSE3".

What will fit a Rocker or Rocker C will fit your bike, and they were MUCH more numerous when new.

One of my good mates here used to fit upswept fishtails to each new Softail he bought (all 200 rear of course).

I can't remember the brand sorry, but I did all his ECM reflashing to suit, and being true duals on a Softail it took a bit of tweaking.

May have been Samson or Freedom Performance.

Apologies that's perhaps no good help with your turn signal relocation question !

PPS you need the "bigger" 18mm O2 sensors also. Easy to miss that, only up to 2010.

That may cut down options a wee bit.

Thanks, that’s what I’m seeing. Nothing for a wide tire softail. The Paughco’s do come with both 18mm and 21mm sensor adapters according to their website. Now just waiting to see if their pipes will work or not.

Every Rocker sold in Australia would have had some kind of aftermarket noisy exhaust fitted.

With stock Rocker headers all Softail Custom/Standard/ Nightrain slip on mufflers fit. S&S, Khromewerks etc etc

I have also seen Rockers with V&H short shots (terrible pipes for decel popping !)

Very few FXSTSSE3 models sold new here, they were just too dear at the time. Price of 2 Dyna lowriders !

V&H Big radius curved I have seen those , also as poppity as all buggery.

Good luck and keep hunting, then post up your findings.

All the best from Perth Western Australia mate

I got this last month. I’ve made some changes since this photo was taken but this shows the V&H pipes on it now. I don’t hate them, just want to go full chopper/hot rod look to go with the paint.

No dice on the Paughco pipes. Looks like it’ll have to be custom made pipes some day.

To go with the paint, the apes and the sissy bar ya means haha...

Nice looking bike.

HD sold the Blue and Green flame 2009's here, but as I mentioned already very few.

Indeed, more have come to Australia as used imports than were ever sold new.

I do a bit of Harley work, ECM tuning and general servicing, and have only ever worked on used import 2009's.

My "Chopper" building mate here has confirmed it was Samson upswept fishtail true dual systems he used on a number of bikes over the years 2007 to 2017.

It is "possible" that there is enough "wiggle room" to fit these to a 240 rear.

When the Rocker first got to Australia, I remember one of the V&H options had enough "wiggle room" with a bit of bracket modding required.

Thanks for the link.

Samson doesn’t have what I’m looking for. I spoke to a local guy about making a set of custom pipes. It’s the chrome that’s going to set me back over $1000 alone. That’s probably what I’ll end up doing down the road.

HD only made 421 of the yellow 2009 CVO springer with 312 of them being released in the U.S. and the rest world wide. There’s a green one for sale near me but they want too much money for the amount of problems it has listed in the sale post.

No worries, and all the best with it.

Will be interesting to hear and see how you go.

Which particular V&H system is on it now, and did you get the complete stock OEM exhaust system with it ?

Quite important if you do or can, the whole system is model unique.

I have a full OEM Rocker C exhaust here that I have used on several used import 2009 CVO Springers, to pass government checks and tests.

Soon as that was done whatever USA fitted system was on there on import went back on for road use.

It didn’t come with any of the original stock equipment. It would have been nice to have the stock risers. It had 6 inch risers with the 16” ape hangers…. Way too high even for me with super long arms. I dropped to 4inch risers and my right hand still goes to sleep!

There’s no emissions check here in NC so no real need for the stock pipes although it seems they might have come in handy to add upswept slip ons to!

I have a Mother Roads Customs spring seat and p-pad arriving today that I’m excited about. I don’t like the way the stock seat pushes against my tailbone. I’m too used to sitting on my sit bones on a bicycle.

Changing away from those Apes on it now, as I'm sure you know, means clutch cable, throttle cables(2), both front brake and hydraulic clutch lines.

Risers are Springer unique, other Softail risers do not fit !

Quite an expensive exercise if you don't have the stock OEM stuff to hand.

just in case, HD models have had DOT4 corrosive paint damaging brake fluid since 2006 model year. Be careful of that chit if replacing the lines.

HD used DOT5 silicone up until 2005, and changed to DOT4 when the first models got factory ABS (which this Springer don't have, go figure)

Post up some photos of the seat you have en route. Again the 2009 CVO Springer seat is I think model unique.

An easy 15 minute job turned into a few hours thanks to my stupidity. The two holes that that front bolts go into never had anything in them so they were filled with rust so I snapped a bolt. Got that fixed. Got the seat installed late last night. Hopefully I’ll get it out this afternoon after the rain is gone. I ordered one inch springs because I want the seat lower than what it is now with two inch springs. I love the way it looks!!

Very "Crossbones" looking, which it would have to be. The last factory Springer made.

I have oft thought of picking up a Crossbones seat setup for my 2008, and it would bolt right on. No mods required.

Looks quite good, if maybe a bit of comfort sacrifice on longer runs ?

And that exhaust looks like V&H "Big Shot Staggered".
