Had a lot of noise coming from the left front fork of my 2014. Several years ago I had sent the forks to Pro Action for their fork kit. At that time they left the cartridge from HD in place, with their spring and replaced the guts in the right fork with their components. DJ at PA had me send them my forks because the kit they sent me was the wrong one for a 2014, the dampners were too long by nearly an inch.
I wanted to remove the cartridge but PA didn’t send the unused dampner from the kit I bought when they did the forks. I called and spoke to Eric at PA and asked if they had a record of what dampner they used in my right fork and if he could send me one so I could convert the left side. I had already bought a new bolt, cup, top out spring etc since the cartridge side on a 2014 are small in size that the non-cartridge side. Eric said he didn’t but to take the forks off and send them back to them and they would send them back to me.
When I got the forks back in a few days, I tore open the box and could not find an invoice so I called Eric and asked is there was an invoice in this friggin box among all the newspaper and confetti? His reply was no. He said we updated both dampners to their new fluted stuff, and there was no charge, Pro Action wants happy customers. I said heck, I wasn’t unhappy necessarily, just didn’t like the bed spring noise from the cartridge side.
Suffice to say I was very happy with the customer service from the Pro Action folks, so much so that I ordered a set of rear 13 inch shocks for my Apex 2022 on the spot.
First ride on the 2014 was amazing, I don’t know if it is because the cartridge is gone or if the fluted dampners are that much better than the previous design and I don’t care. Miss Susan and I hit a godawful big pothole and the rear Bitubo shocks bottomed, but the forks did not.
I have also now ridden about 300 miles with the PA shocks on the rear of the 2022. I am very very pleased with those as well. The ride versus the 12 inch HD stockers is so much better, as expected, and I have not yet turned a screw on them. They are set from PA for both Miss Susan and I and they are a bit stiff with just me but not so much that I have turned the preload down. Miss Susan has not yet been able to ride with me so maybe after she does I will make some adjustments.
The front suspension on the 2022 is much better than the stock 2014 was but as soon as I build the piggy bank back up I’m gonna get the front kit for the 22.
