Garmin Zumo or Streetpilot 2820...both are excellent.  Techmount handlebar mount.  Take a look in the Electronic toys topic and you'll find all you ever wanted to know about GPS and options for mounting, functions, etc.

If I didn't have an in-dash system I would go with a Garmin Zumo 550.

I've had the TomTom Rider for 2 years and it has been great. Had it on my WG and moved it to the SERK when I bought it recently. Hardwired so it doesn't lose charge while riding.

Are any GPS models waterproof to prevent riding in the rain from ruining the system?

I see that Harley has some in their catalog, but no mention to waterproof or not.

Just thought I'd ask here about being waterproof or not.

Thanks.

The Garmin Zumo is waterproof and designed for motorcyclist. I have the Zumo 550 and have had it in some torrential downpours and it has held up.

I think all of the Garmin Streetpilots, Quests, Zumo, and some of the handhelds are waterproof to some kind of industry standard that amounts to holding the thing 2 feet underwater for 30 minutes without leaking.

I have the TomTom Rider. Riding back from Sturgis I rode through about 3 hours of torrential downpour and it didn't hurt the gps at all. It's waterproof, shockproof, etc. I use a RAM mount which is way better than the 1 that comes with it. The screen is also easy to see in bright daylight.
