Hard Starting 110
« on: April 18, 2007, 11:39:21 PM »

Alright guy's,  need a little help. The bike seems to be taking a little longer cranking before it starts now. Used to start about 2 cranks. Now it takes 3 to 5 turn overs before it kicks. Just more annoying then anything else but would like to know if I should be concerned or not. Other than this, seems to run great.  Think it could just be something with the pcIII or what? :nixweiss:

Same here. I noticed the change right after installing the PCIII.  I'm not sure what caused the change since I didn't do the tuning on the PCIII. Even though it take a few cranks longer to start it sounds like it is actually easier on the starter. ???

Hey GR, I noticed the same thing. I tried to start it yesterday and had a hard time and a lot of smoke. ???

I don't have any smoke just seems like a few extra cranks. Doesn't seem to be cranking hard like high compression. Just seems to me like it should fire on 1st or 2nd turn over. Maybe I'm just looking for things to complain about now?

Just an idea here, try to add some "start-up" fuel to the PCIII. This can be done within the software. It won;'t change your tune at all....

I'll have to look into that.  To be honest, that's exactly what it sounds like, like it's just waiting for fuel then fires right up when it gets it. Is it pretty self explanitory with the PC program to change this?

I think my problem is too much fuel. That's why I'm smelling fuel & seeing smoke.

Too much gas is never a good thing..... unless you don't like the other people in the elevator. :devilish:

Yes, It is an advanced feature that need to be installed on older models (along with the rev x-tend), I'm not sure if its on yours or not. If it is it is pretty easy

Well I know I have the revextender so hopefully it has that feature also. I'll try and check tomorrow since the program is on my laptop, which I didn't bring home with me tonight.

GasRat,
I had all those same problems when I put the PCIII on my scoot.
I enabled the Accel Pump Feature and did the "add fuel" at start up and was
able to dial it to within 2-3 cranks of starting.  It took a bunch of
experimenting to get it close, but shouldn't take long at all.
Then when Zippers/TMax came out with the all-in-one ECM, I took the
plunge and now this thing hums like a bird.  Fires right up and runs awesome.
Good Luck,
TimBone

Timbone,  that sounds like what I need to do. I was a little confused on line, but it sounds like I have to download the Accelpump feature and play with it. Do you remember where you finally set yours?  Would help cut down the time for me if I had a place to start at.
  Thanks

If it started right up before, and now it doesn't I would begin there.  Why adjust something when it ran ok before.  It could be the plugs need a little cleaning. SImplest first.

Good advice from the king. Let the fuel system "prime" before hitting the starter button.
