Where are you measuring at?  Thanks.

I was going to check on the next ride, rear cylinder, left side on the flat area of the head where the spark plug is....Last check was right side, rear cylinder under the badge are near the exhaust flange.

Mike

Ok, Ambient temp 74º Head temp 74º... Bike still in shop! :D

Mike in all seriousness, I'm  pointing the meter at the base of the spark plug ( silver ring ). Hope this helps.

Things that are reflective can cause a emissivity bias... I use the tech for non contact ( no thermocouple) measurement of critical hi temp rotational parts and other boring things during that stupid part of my day called work.

High emissivity will bias low using IR...Once we are the same page checking this stuff the data may show a metal temp. trend... I'm gonna ride some Saturday after honeydews and will check the shiny versus the black...The bias may be load induced with the dead center fairing I slapped on for tunes.  This is a good thing, like the Paul Butterfield I am listening too now...Peace

I still don't know what he said.  ;D

And that's the way we like our women! ;)

When we rode to the mountains last weekend, AJ used his "Radio Shack Infrared Thermometer" to check Susan's and Nancy's temperature.
And you thought those CVO 110's were hot :o.

Hi all....Just rolled in from the PBC Sweet Corn Festival, reneckingly speaking,  the time we had was as fine as frogs hair.  Grabbed a bag of sweet corn to stuff in the saddlebag to go...A 07 serk/glide convertible RH2-1, sert/Se ac.
We were two up as the scratched dyna tank is still in the shop and the missus was gonna hold out on my ride later unless she got hers 1st.

At a stoplight after crusing around 50-60 the temp got to 380 fast.  Crusing 60-80 it was 244...I guess air flow and oill coolers work.
Conditions: two-up, 80-85 degrees F,  70% humidity ( summer is here in SoFl folks ,lovebugs too.).  Fairing on.

I measured the rear cylinder left side near or around the plug at stops and while moving.
Any data folks, please post it.  Left side on or near plug ring, ambient temp and humidity with bike style and ridin conditions...

Please feel free to ridicule and genrally MF me cause I kinda like it and because I am used to it professionally.
I'm off to boil up some corn and have a little smoked mullet n beer (rednecky nuff fer ya?).

Peace out yall

For me, I commonly see 340 kind of numbers. One short putt getting stuck in traffic, pushed them up to 380. That number had me a bit worried. Normally, 340 is about right. I checked a 2003 Ultra one morning when we both rode, and his front was 330, but my front was a bit cooler than that. 330 or 340 doesn't worry me. The 380 sure got my attention tho.

I had the 380 number yesterday.  80-85 Degrees , humid, 2up with a fairing on...That  temp was after a 7-9 mile at 65-75 then a stop light...It went from around 240-250 while running at those speeds to the 370-380 number real quick.  I measured at the left side, aft cylinder at or near the plug...I slid into the garage from the 380 number and checked at idle it was around 340.

Miker,

After getting over my initial alarm when seeing the 380 number, i've calmed down a bit on the temps. I think the 340 is find. I do question the 240 number you are reporting. That's only a smidge higher than oil temp at highway speed. That data sounds fishy to me. I would expect rear temp to be above 300 always.

That was while moving at 60-75 mph, why don't you try it and then question the result or please post yours, nothing beats redundant data.  The other difference is flhrse3 with fairing vs the uc.

It appears the air cooling and oil coolers work well with whilst runnin.  I took seveal measurments while riding and will continue them as data builds, just to make sure fishiness gets slowly removed.

You are a suspcious bugger aren't you.  ;-)
