From POI Factory concerning the latest POI update...

Just loaded POI Loader v2.5.1 and now I am getting a error when it is completing the load. Anybody else having this problem? Here is the error "PoiLoader Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Thanks, kdehaan

Dear KD,

I had the same problem and called Garmin. The helpful fellow there told me that there is a problem if one has BMP-files that one is uploading and, of course, most of us here probably do have BMP-files we want to load. He told me that they are working on solving the problem.

Didn't purchase it was a free update for me. When did you get your Zumo? If you've registered on the Garmin site log in to your account and check for updates and you may still be able to get it free depending on when you purchased your Zumo.

I haven't noticed any difference in the update and what I'm hearing is unless the updates directly effect your area then you can get them every other year if not longer interval.

Hey, thanks for the quick heads up on the POI loader.
The best price I've seen for the 2008 update has been on Amazon.com.

Nope they haven't. They removed that updated version (2.5.1) and rolled back to previous version (2.4.2) but did change the date on it to "February 28, 2008".

Firmware Update 4.00 as of March 5, 2008

Changes made from version 3.90 to 4.00:
· Speed up MadMaps route calculations
· Correct issue displaying GPI files that were created on a PC with a system code page other than 1252

Run Webupdater to install this.

Note: It is recommended you remove SD card from unit before doing this as some have found the update tried to load to the card instead of the unit.

Thanks for the update head's up, d00d!

Removed the SD card as suggested.

I also added Australian English-Karen-TTS since we go to Outback when we travel & I figured she would know how to get there better than American Jill.   :2vrolijk_21:

Aight Den

I need help.

First off, I have Mapsource at work, not here.

I left the zumo at home today and made a route to CHL on mapsource.

I emailed the routes to my home email address.

I hook the Zumo up and copied the files into G:\Garmin. I saw other routes already there. They all had a .gdb extension. I know the new routes are there, but when I turn the zumo on, it doesn't seem to recognize them.

Do I have to import directly to the Garmin from Mapsource?

I believe you do. When it loads it through Mapsource it imports/converts it to a *.gpx file to become a route.

Ken,

You do not have to import directly from Mapsource to get it to recognize the routes, but you have to save the route differently.  Save your route as normal, and then save it again as: GPX format and then send yourself the GPX file.  Once the GPX file is found by the Zumo, it will ask if you want to import it and so on just as if it had been imported directly from Mapsource.  When I first got my Zumo, that was the only way to get it to work as there was a problem with importing directly from Mapsource to the Zumo initially.  Since then, I try to keep some of the routes from the area we are visiting on the SD card in case I need to share them with a fellow traveller with a Zumo.  That way, they can easily copy the routes and use them without the assistance of a PC.
