Need some help please! What is this?
« on: April 29, 2007, 04:46:38 PM »

Got back this afternoon from putting a 100 miles on the break in period, and noticed this tube/small hose hanging from the right side of the bike, lower, just behind the frame, toward the rear.  I have attached a couple of photos to show exactly what it looks like...

Another, but blurry...

When the bike cools down, I'll go out an take a closer look.  It ran fine all day.  No issues at all.

Any ideas on what it might attach to would be appreciated.

Not to worry! It's your fuel overflow. I wondered the first time I saw it too.

Whew :nervous:

Thought I had a Friday bike for a minute.  Thanks Hard10!

Is it supposed to be tucked up into the frame somewhere? It appears you had the same issue.  What did you do with yours?

I'll clean the prints once she cools down.  Summer is here in Texas already :2vrolijk_21:

With the price of fuel rising everyday now you know where to put the catch can in case you overfill ;D

Next time you fill up sit on the bike and have it level, fill all the way up to the neck (but don't have it overflowing out the top). Then sit your bike on the jiffy stand and walk away for a few minutes. More then likely you'll have a little puddle under your bike when you get back from this overflow.

The first long trip I took I filled up and went inside. I come back out & see the puddle. Oh Chit!!! The guy pumping next to me says "you're leaking something." My first thought is to call the dealer & I'm in the middle of EBF nowhere! I went over & smelled the ground & realized what I had done. ...I wasn't going to tell any one that story Cobalt!

Man, I have a lot to learn. I didn't even know they had a fuel overfill hose!!

In California, it's called " Evaporative Emission Control System " and the overflow hose connects to a cannister stashed somewhere on the bike ( usually ugly and visable) Not sure what the other 49 states have. I thought that H-D had been building 50 state bikes for the past 3 or 4 years.

As a sidebar, it wasn't too long ago you had a hose for the fuel overflow, another one for the battery and a crankcase vent hose ( yep, three freakin hoses puking fluids all over the place) Most guys put a filter on the crankcase hose and did away with the fuel one leaving only the battery which unless you overcharged, didn't spit out anything.

I have no problem learning from the experiences of others :)  I have done my fair share of "learning through experience" that I would have no problem passing on to others!!  As I have been riding only a few years, I have more boat stories than I do bikes at this point...Like trying to start your boat and you get nothing when you turn the key....only to look back and see that when I shut it off, I still had it in gear :-[.  I've got a million of 'em.
