Dirty Bike?
« on: November 30, 2004, 03:19:30 PM »

The SEEG is the first bagger I have owned, and coming off a Wide Glide it is a tremendous improvement in ride, comfort, and amenities. The problem I have with it is that it collects major dust. Ride it down the road for just a few miles and the whole rear of the bike is covered with dust.  I never had that problem with the Wide Glide or the FXR3. They would get dusty but not near the magnitude that the SEEG does. Is this something unique to the style of bike. Just guessing, I suspect that the fairing and the lowers create a somewhat still air pocket behind them and keeps the wind from blowing the dust off behind them. Anyone else notice this that has rode both styles of bikes?

YES! This is the 4th HD i've owned and by far it collects a lot of road dust. It must be due to the fairing and the lowers. My Road king with the windshield on would collect some dust.

Guess we get to clean more [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

Hey Steve, this is a problem definitely associated with baggers.

Definately a bagger problem.  If you get the chance, ride behind any of the FL's on a dusty stretch of road.  The dust literally rolls straight up off the lower rear of the bags.  I've heard a jillion theories on a cure, but have yet to see one work.

2lane, ...... I'm with you on that one, it just is what it is.  As an afterthought, really need to mention that the temp today was a cloudless 81, wind from the South at 6 and just a slight riffle on the Gulf as I got my bagger all dusty on a little 200 mile adventure.  Sorry....just had to do that, but the invite's still open....ya'll come on down now, hear!   [smiley=beerchug.gif]

Never forget, bikes will get dirter if they are riden...if they are not riden, why have them?

Bottom Line - If you are going to own a peice of property that will require maintence, be prepared to provide it...not a small commitment

I know we would all enjoy a clean and well functioning bike, however that will not be the case in all matters.

Until that utopia occurs, ENJOY THE RIDE!

Great idea JC.....I'm going to change my usual reply to the highway patrol.  When asked if I knew why I was being stopped I always replied that "I guess I was the only one you could catch".  Based upon your suggestion it will now be "I needed to blow the dust off the bags".  No doubt it will work!!!!   [smiley=bigok.gif]

Actually, like most of you, I've owned many, many bikes before I got into the baggers.  I thought the only reason I noticed a little more dust (didn't seem to be that much more) was because there's so much more of the painted surface on the baggers.  I can sure tell you that none of the other bikes, regardless of how clean they were, got as much attention as my SEEG.  Well except for my chopper back in the early 70's........Harmon frame, Harmon front end (that made it about 12 feet long), 100% chrome plated motor (it was built for the shows but I couldn't resist riding it daily......a youngster with a new toy), bright custom paint with a lot of real gold leafing.  It was something else!
