Features - Garage Door Opener Information
« on: May 06, 2007, 12:27:47 AM »

Hey Folks,

I finally had my 2007 Blue CVO Ultra delivered to my house in Okinawa.  I found some parts missing.  Since I didn't get to do an inventory with the VA dealer before it was shipped, I don't know what was not shipped with the bike and what may have been stolen in transit.  Anyway, I think the dealer is replacing most of the featured stuff (like CVO cover, Gold Key, etc...).

I just found one more item missing--but I'm not exactly sure what it was.  I know it has to do with the Garage Door Opener.  I think it was a small rectangular box--dealer says he put it inside one of the saddlebags.  Can someone tell me what this may have been?  Was it the receiver component?  Any chance you might have a part number, description or picture?  I'd like to order a replacement from a local dealer.

Thanks.

I've been using the garage door opener that came with my SEUC. It's really handy, just click the high beam switch back and forth and the door opens. It all of a sudden quit working. I can't remember for sure, but it may have been about the time I had the Zippers Thundermax AT installed. I tried to reprogram the unit to communicate with the receiver as per the instructions, but nothing. Has anyone else had this problem. The dealer is looking into it but I almost know they won't fix it. They looked at me like I've grown two heads when I asked them to check it out. It seems to me the sending part of the unit is messing up.

VAZHOG,

I went through Patriot HD in Fairfax.  My experience was less than spectacular.  I think Mr. Murphy, of Murphy's Law fame, stayed with me through every step of this purchase.  He even rode along with the bike to Japan, where it arrived with some damage in shipping.

Let me know what other info you're looking for.

Why would they not fix it?  Under warranty after all.  There's only two parts to the system.  So it's not like they're even putting out much effort to track it down.

If it's the transmitter on the bike (and the problem is actually with the transmitter and not the pigtail to it) you're hosed.  You'll need a new transmitter.  If the problem is the receiver, however, you may have a "Plan B."

Many (not all, but many) garage door openers share the freq range that the Harley branded opener does.  So you can go through the same steps to progam a hand unit to garage door opener but use the bike rather than a hand unit.  That way you'd simply eliminate the "Harley" receiver.  At least an option to consider if the receiver turns out to be the problem and the dealership is for some reason being an ass about it.

Soumds like your transmitter is gone? It is located on the inner leftside of the faring on an adhesive tape mount. I don't Zipper would have anything to do with it not working.
1. you should have a red light on the garage reeiver (power to the reciver)
2. Press and hold the set button (LED BLINKS Continiously while the set button is pressed)
3. Set the Motorcycle Ignition Switch to IGN. witch the headlamp beam switch From low to high or high to low

(NOTE)
when the reciver receives a signal from the transmitter, The Led on the transmitter turns off. (you will need to have the clam shell off to see this) That expalins why they looked at you like you had two heads. :)
4. Release the set button on the receiver.
5. Test the garage door opner , High beam and low beam headlamp operation
(NOTE)
When The Transmitter is activated by toggling the headlamp swith, the red LED on the transmitter illuminates for one secondto indicate that the transmitter is working correctly.

6. Turn MC Ing Switch off.

Looks like you have to open her up to test. or Pehaps try to reprogram it again using these steps again.

Before I pass judgement on the dealer, they did call yesterday while I was out and told the Mrs, everything is fixed and it's ready to go. It's possible they have it fixed. I yhink it's just something they have never un across yet.

"If it's the transmitter on the bike (and the problem is actually with the transmitter and not the pigtail to it) you're hosed." What do you mean I'm hosed? Speak English, errr..Kentuckian"

Yea, it's not really that much to it. I ran a wire from the electric opener to the Harley receiver. All it does is momentarily make a switch. It's either the transmitter or the receiver.

I'd have to get the book back out on my 07. That doesn't even sound vaguely familiar. I do remember there's a blinking light or something once the transmitter and receiver begin communicating.

Well, I should probably wait until I try once more before posting this, but, I'm bored at work.

My scooter was in for service and I took the HD receiver with me for them to check out WHY it wasn't working. When the guy at the counter was trying to write up the work order, he acted as if he'd never heard of a garage door opener. He asked me, WHAT would you call that thing? Err, I'm just the lowly customer, I dunno. Well, the next day I happened to be back at the dealer on a poker run and checked on their progress. The technician looked at me as if, I've NEVER worked on one of these. How does it work? It doesn't work, that's why I brought it to you. I then explained how you simply switch the headlights from dim to bright and it sends a signal to THIS unit, the receiver. the receiver momentarily makes a switch that is wired to my electric garage door opener. Wow, that's amazing he says.

I made a mistake by even mentioning the Zippers Thundermax AT. I've heard of some weird things happening with it. They jumped on that bandwagon and all of a sudden, THAT is the problem. I guess if it is going to get fixed, I'll have to do it.

So, you go to a dealer who apparently doesn't even know that HD makes a Garage door opener, though the kits are sitting all over the dealership shelves here in B'ham, asks the customer how it works, then blames it on a system that has got absolutely nothing to do with the function of the transmitter located under the fairing?  Do these guys look anything like the guy playing banjo in Deliverance?
