I remember when HD was prototyping them, the engine for the time seemed promising, but the look didn't catch on. The V-rod is much better executed.

I understand that H-D has two, four and six cylinder flavors of this machine. I took a picture of this four banger in the Trev Deeley Museum in Vancouver.

The american rider write up was a very good article.  it talked about the creation and the death of the bike.

With sales lagging they need to do something!! :zthread:

Sales aren't lagging all that much in the 2007 model year.  2006 calendar year sales were up.

Worldwide retail sales of Harley-Davidson motorcycles increased 8.5 percent in 2006 compared to 2005. In the U.S., retail sales of Harley-Davidson motorcycles increased 5.9 percent while the U.S. heavyweight motorcycle market was up 4.9 percent for the same period. In our international markets, Harley-Davidson retail sales for the full year grew 18.6 percent. Retail sales in Europe increased 14.6 percent; Japan was up 16.3 percent; Canada was up 15.9 percent and all other international markets combined were up 34.3 percent.

Entire HD release here on sales for 2006
http://www.harley-davidson.com/CO/NEW/en/PressRelease_Date.asp?locale=en_CA&bmLocale=en_CA&id_in=1111&dspmm=1&dspyy=2007

Looks like the first and second quarters of 2007 will average out to normal shipments as well.

Quote:

The Company expects to ship between 94,000 and 97,000 Harley-Davidson® motorcycles in the second quarter of 2007.

Motorcycles and Related Products Segment – First Quarter Results
Revenue from Harley-Davidson motorcycles was $891.5 million, a decrease of $117.0 million or 11.6 percent versus the same period last year. Shipments of Harley-Davidson motorcycles totaled 67,761 units, a decrease of 11,745 units or 14.8 percent compared to last year’s first quarter.

The 94-97k shipments will more than make up for the first quarter shortfall of 11,745.

It seems to me the MoCo does a really good job on us with their mushroom theory or "keep us in the dark and feed us bullchit."

Yes, They Count Sales (Pushed out the door) and sent to dealers as sales (Known as cooking the books) if you don't do it right. There is an awful lot of product on the dealers floors for increased sales :) I've got no skin in the game as I only own one HD and I don't own any shares, but with everbody and the brother having a motorcycle shop (building and service) I pause to think back 80 years ago when everybody and there brother had a MC shop and it soon petered out it just the cycle of things. The grey beards are not going to be around to hold up the stock for much longer  :nixweiss: IMOP
