Hmmmm.....
« on: May 07, 2007, 07:55:19 PM »

I noticed the heat shield on the rear cyl pipe was touching the head slightly.  Figured it must have just slipped a bit, when I went to adjust it I noticed this spot on the head pipe.  Looks to me like it's been RFH (really frickin' hot).   BTW I took the pic after I moved the shield.  Also contrary to how it looks in the pic, the shield did not rub there, it wasn't loose it was just lower and against the head a bit.  I'm gonna go pull the rear plug and have a look at it.  Back in a bit.

Yes.  No mods.  Spark plus doesn't look bad to me.  Camera is giving me fits thought.  If I can get it to take a pic of the plug I'll post it.  I rode 197 miles yesterday.  Oil temp never got above 240 or so.  Didn't do any excessive idling either.  Bike has 825 miles on it and hasn't used any oil to speak of and the oil smells OK.

Then your assumption of it getting "RFH" might be the cause. If the plugs are looking good and you're happy w/the way the bike is running (oil temp staying at a temperature you feel comfortable with) then ride it. :2vrolijk_21:

Here's a shot of the rear plug.  I tried to compensate the exposurer.  It's actually darker than the pic with the threads that are inside the combustion chamber being black and the electrode is brown with a lighter color on the outside of the "curve".  The insulator in side the center is white.

If I had one of these borescopes I could have a look around inside the cylinders.   ;)

I wouldn't make myself nuts about itTros. The plug is normal and so are the pipes. That's why the heat shields go all the wat to the head. You weren't supposed to peek! ;) Mine is the same. I think if everyone peeks under the heat shield at the head, they'll all be like this. Hoist! 8)

Thanks, I feel better now!  It did kinda freak me out a bit.  If I don't do anything else I will get it tuned to run "correctly".   ;)

Mine's in now for tuning. My oil got to 241 Max, running hard this weekend. Never felt any bad engine heat either. I hope the tune helps things even more. But the pipes, PP and PC are definitely keeping it cooler. My bike was never hot yet! I think doing those mods from the very beginning are an absolute must! But if you're bone stock, I'd still think about some kind of ECM Mod at minimum. Hoist! 8)

Hoist is that pipes and a DPP or did you really just PP on the bike cause after it gets warm it might keep people away?    :nixweiss:

AJ,

Sounds like you guys had a lot of fun up there in NY.   Rhino might have to do some more mods if you schooled AJ up there Hoist.  He is already proclaiming faster than AJ for sure now.  So Hoist did ya lose to that softtail or is your 110 honor intact?  ohh and AJ get off the computer and go spend some time with Sassy ya know ....

Harry, we had a blast, but are you looking to start another Civil War? ;D I was hoping he had the SEUC. It might have been a little fairer. The SERK seems to run pretty good so far. I've been breaking it in real good! ;) Maybe Puzzled or AJ can answer better. I'm just keep bringing it straight up thru the gears all the time and I'm used to it. But it feels quick. That little bike of AJ's runs good though! :D Rhino can't play with AJ no more since he got them cams. Did those cams and heads come in yet AJ? ::) Hoist! 8)
