zippers SE aircleaner upgrade kit question
« on: May 12, 2007, 07:03:54 PM »

I purchased zippers SE air cleaner upgrade Kit #117-296 that is supposed to fit with the stock football shaped air cleaner and after installing it the stock air cleaner does not fit. I have an orange/black FLHTCSE and the stock air cleaner with the orange lettering.  Anyone else install the above air cleaner kit with the stock cover?

Thanks

What do you mean by doesn't fit?
Does the chrome hex head button screw not thread into the front of the filter?
I have the Zippers air filter, and my OEM football fits. Or I should say it fits over it.
Now it sticks out A LOT more than say an SE filter did, actually exposing some of the filter but it still fits, and the screw threads in.

roadrunner,
As Ironhorse stated the Zippers filter is deeper in depth and will stick out further and have some of the filter exposed as you'll see in the picture below. Thanks to AUSSIE_FLSTFSE this is a picture of an '05 SEFB and you'll get an idea of how much more of the filter will be exposed. However this is not a major concern as other members have been running this style filter w/stock covers w/no problems. If you're experiencing something different then that can you explain a little more in detail?

Sorry all, operator error, washer fits between air filter and cover.  With the air filter sticking out further than stock (like in fired00d pic) thru me.  Thanks for the info.  Ride safe!!

Zippers has a High Flow 2.25" filter and a 2.75" filter. I have the 2 1/4" And it works fine!

I had the extended flow on the pumpkin and while it fit, I ended up having problems with screws that mount it the filter broke off from the studs.   I went back to the regular one much like the K&N, Ness but made by Zippers and havent had any issues since.

So to answer your question either Zippers filters will fit with the cover shown above in your post.

I have the Zippers. It is round, I don't know the size(I'm to lazy to go measure right now, just got off 6 hour ride)but they said it was the best flow they have. Said it is the old EVO style. It is big and round so I put the retro EVO cover on. Some may not like the look, but I do and it seemed to help when we did the pipes and RT. The Dyno numbers are just a little over 100/100....

Here's a pic...
I know y'all have seen this b4 but I just like looking at it... ;D

I have just cracked my 3rd extended air cleaner and have gone back to the stock replacement (k&N, zippers, Ness).   I left the last one at the harley dealer for them to take a look at this past friday.   Unfortunately the tin around the 3 screws seems to be too thin to hold up over time.   I havent had an issue since I went back to the standard standoffs and regular size high flow vs. the extended.  I would caution you about putting that one on your bike.   It will fit on your bike provided you get the extended standoffs I know this because I also have a 04 flhtcse pumpkin, but 3 filters in 14 months is to many for me.
