buying 2003 serk vs new rk or streetglide
« on: May 18, 2007, 12:10:30 PM »

Hello everyone I am new to the forum I sold a heritage springer and a custom, I am looking for a new bike and in need of suggestions

I am trying to make a decision between a 2003 screaming eagle road king and going for a new road king or even a street glide. The serk has 21,000 miles and is really clean but the price for all is almost the same. Just looking for opinions or suggestions.
Thanks

Any CVO bike is a better purchase than any non-CVO bike.  To get an opportunity for a proven success such as the Screamn' Eagle Road King, a definate boon.  In My Humber Opinion IMHO of course.

make a list of pros/cons of each of those bikes.  biggest differenc is the drivetrain

2003 CVO 103" 5 speed

2007 FL.. 96" 6 speed

I know it is a pro and con game and it seems like 103" 5 spped and a 96" 6 speed is the biggest difference. I am thinking the serk will hold value better since it is a cvo bike, don't know though now that the 96" 6 speed is stock.  I have gone round and round and seem to be stuck. also serk is same price as street glide. any and all opinions, suggestions welcome.

Best way to decide is to take both for a test drive and see which one feels right to you. Then make your pro and con list.

I personally love the look of the 2003 SERK and wouldnt mine having one in the garage one little bit.

If you can pick up a good price on the SERK or SEEG I'd go that route , I've seen quite a few that I rather have than the 07's.

Get the 2003 Anniversary SERK and add the 6-speed gear sets. You can at least get a painted tour-pak and hard bags on the 03 SERK. But then I'm prejudiced a bit in that direction. :nixweiss:

Your comparing a serk to a  streetglide, because of price? I would first make my decision based on whether I wanted the bat wing fairing or not. Once that decision is made by you I would be comparing the serk to a new rk or compare a seeg to a streetglide. Try not to getting hung up on price keeping you from getting the bike you want.

Your absolutely right, try them both and which do you prefer the look of although, I was so hung up about the SERK I have ordered one with the intention of buying fairing as an addition.

I have to agree with some of the above posts...test drive them, and then go fro there. I would definitely prefer a CVO over a non-CVO based off my past expiriences. Good luck with the search though.

I totally agree with the others and definitely test ride them all before making your decision. I added the Screamin' Eagle 6-Speed to my 2006 FLHTCUSE with the 103 and I like it a lot! :coolblue:

I priced an 07 Street Glide with a Stage II BB kit and just Steel Braided Brake lines .. after all the tax and labor etc it's the same or more than I can pick up a nice SEEG. Granted it has a 6 speed, but that's not a big deal to upgrade to. To bring an SG up to SEEG trim you are lookin at 30K .

Count yourself lucky - my SERK is costing in the region of $39K.  The £ may be strong currency but the wages aren't.

I wouldn't trade my 03 SERK for anything. Like you I looked at new Road Kings. Plenty of $$$$s to make it an SE, and it will still be slightly different than a MoCo CVO. I couldn't find anywherethat one could even order a SE Road King.
Look at the Options list an 03 SERK has and figure how many $$$$s you would spend on HD Chrome on a new RK

FLHRSEI 2 incorporates all the Road King FLHRI model updates for model year 2003, and includes the following additional standard features:

-Twin Cam 103™ Powertrain finished in Silver and Chrome
-Black High Torque 1.4 KW Starter
-High Performance Clutch with Hydraulic Actuation
-High Strength Final Drive Belt
-Custom Oil Cooler
-Custom Oil Filter Mount with Internal Thermostat

-Chrome Fork Sliders and Chrome Upper Fork Covers
-Chrome Lower Triple Tree Cover
-Silver Brake Calipers with Billet-style Inserts
-Chrome Front Axle Nut Covers

 Cruise Control

-Custom Color
-Centennial Gold with Vivid Black and Burgundy Accents
-Color-Matched Centennial Gold Frame, Swingarm and Footboard Support

About the only thing I needed to do was Passenger floorboards and highway pegs.
I used the Passenger pegs, with new engine guard clamps for my highway pegs.
I have since added the Running Light\Turn Signal\Brake Light Module and the Dual Bulb headlight Kit

I found and 03 SERK near me by pure luck one day and that was that.
Do a goodle search or eBay Search and Look around for 03 SERKs. I have seen them from $14K or less up to $26K.
One had matching Tour Pack, Lowers and Fairing.

here are two, after a quick search on eBay for FLHRSEI2

2003 Harley-Davidson FLHRSEI2 Road King CV0 - 16,222 miles = $15,999
