Disconnecting Running Light Shut-off?
« on: May 19, 2007, 12:47:38 AM »

When I put on my high-beams, I notice my running lights turn off.  I remember reading a thread where someone discussed how to disconnect this auto-shutoff.  I want to be able to run my high beam with the running lights on.  If anyone knows how to do this, I would really appreciate the help.

I assume you mean the spot lamps?

Here is a wiring diagram to do it. In this diagram the yellow is connected to the orange of the acc circuit. You can also connect it to the blue wire that is in the un-used 2 pin connector that is taped to your head lamp harness.

Thanks for the info think I'll do this while I install the HID lights this weekend.  The spots add quite a bit of light to the shoulder of the road and ahte to loss that.

Once you get the HID installed, you'll realize, like I did, that the HID makes the spots totally useless. It IS that much brighter / better. My spots now just there to look yellow and weak in comparison. The difference is amazing.

Good luck.

Unfortunatley there has not been a halogen bulb found that comes close to the HID lighting. HID spots are an option but pricey....

Slightly ironic that you now want to wire the spotlights for control separate from high or low beam function so the spots can be turned off rather than turned on.

If I were so inclined to do the HID spots, I would surely re-wire them so I could have, 1, 2, 3 or 4 HID bulbs burning at anyone time. Although most of the time the decision would be between 3 or 4.

I don't want to turn them off I want them on with the high beams.  The more light the better.

Running the spots with the HID Low and High beams is like putting a Black Cat firecracker in the same hole as a stick of dynamite, because more is better.

Bad analogy I know, but you get the point. The HID upgrade effectively converts our spots into marker lights. If I could get them to blink, I'd use them for turn signals and remove the oem turn signals.

What's required to convert the main lamp to HID? I've been really disappointed at  mine at night.

Don did a great write-up a while back. Here it is ==> http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=11544.0

It is not difficult at all, and VERY cool when you're done.

Actually.....

That would be easy.  Funny looking.  But easy.
