Last week I broke down in Fremont and was nearly killed on the side of Interstate 880. Yesterday when I left the Oakland A's game, I got on I-880 south. I go about a half mile and I see a big cloud of dirt/dust about 1/4 mile ahead of me and traffic comes to a halt. A guy in a town car must have passed out becuase he drifted off of the right side of the road, ran over an emergency phone pole, took down another pole, went between the sound wall and the guardrail, then hit one of the huge poles that hold up the exit signs! This was right near the 98th St exit in Oakland. I pulled off to help and got to be on the side of the freeway yet again, making Kimberly stay behind the guardrail for safety. One look at the car said the guy was dead or dying, but he was actually in pretty good shape! He was shocky, had some cuts, and had burns on his hands (from the airbags), but was otherwise okay! We had to break the left rear window and use crowbars to get him out of the smoking car. We closed the right lane with flares and a pickup truck to keep us safe while we worked on him and waited for the ambulance. A doctor stopped and was able to take over the medical part. This guy was lucky to be alive and that the Town Car saved his life! I'll tell you though, I'm getting tired of stopping on I-880!
