96 inch 6 speed performance all stock
« on: May 21, 2007, 12:54:06 PM »

Finally got a chance to do a 500 mile trip to the mountains riding two up on a fully loaded stock 2007 Roadglide with tour pak.  The Moco finally got it right straight out of the box.  The engine and 6 speed are well mated producing  much better torque in each gear.  There were instances  when I was doing 70 going up a 2 lane mountain grade and was able to accelerate while in 6th gear.
The engine seemed happiest when i would shift to 6th when doing 70 or better.  Appeared to lug a bit if you were under 2500 rpms when shifting to 6th.

I averaged 47 mpg which worked out to about 45 going up and 50 on the way back.  My 2006  was getting 40-43.

I was a bit concerned buying a first year engine given the Moco track record. Thus far I am totally pleased.

How many miles are on the RG?  I agree on 6th gear, I don't get usually get in 6th until 65mph or faster.  I'm curious as to what your oil temp was on that ride?

IROAR  LD was a stock 07 Road Glide for the first 8,000 miles. I found I was shifting a lot not only down from 6th but between 3rd, 4th and 5th depending on the road etc. I shifted constantly with all the 103's around me in Maggie Valley. Long story short, for $4k I bumped it up to a 103 and now it's perfect.

Some friends of mine have a set of 2007 Street Glides and they rode to Thunder Beach with us. The scoots never missed a beat and I was impressed. I would really like to see a CVO Street Glide......

I've got 4k miles on the bike.  I don't know what the oil temp was but living in Arizona and riding around when the ambient temp is over 100, it can't be good. I dealt with the passenger heat issue by placing header wrap between the headers and the heat shields. It works great and if it works out here it will work anywhere.

Re making it a 103, good idea, but I am waiting to see if the Moco does a Screaming Eagle Roadglide in 2008.

IROAR
I might have gone with the FLHX as the next 08 CVO Bagger, but my luck and this is based on 53 years of living is such that after putting somewhere around $33k and labor into my 07 RG to make my own faux-pumpkin the MoCo will come back with an 08 SERG.

Even if HD did that Brian LD is still so tailored to you know that you'd have to sink more in a SERG to match it.  HD might have some unique paint scheme on a SERG that would be separate from what you've done.  But unless it suddenly and unexpectedly becomes the year with water cooling, ABS and new fairings that allow GPS screens and other fanc bits (not likely) there's nothing about a SERG that LD wouldn't match.

Thank you sir. And the same to you exponentially.
Now this is more like it. Civility. Ah yes.
I hope you have a most pleasant and enjoyable holiday Don.

You too sir.  I personally did plumbing all afternoon and in to the evening.  But have been up close and personal with Rolling Rock(s) since finishing up.  So a happy evening is unfolding and it shall be followed by a good weekend too.

You and LD or Elvis getting out some this weekend?

Hopefully tommorrow Don. Today is the big Beer fest. I've gotten reports we've got beers coming that were $10 a bottle. Maybe some of you folks are used to that, but that's big time for a guy who until a month ago drank nothing but MGD and Coors Light.

Spiderman, I know what you mean.  I have around $34K in my '06 RG and will take the hit and jump ship for the SERG if they will FINALLY build the darn thing.
