07's Idle Throttle Problem?
« on: May 22, 2007, 08:17:14 PM »

I've been having this intermittant problem with the idle on my bike. Seems like, after running hard 3-4k rpms for 15 minutes or so, I will come to a stop sign and pull in the clutch and the bike will idle to 0 and die. It starts right up afterwards though. I also had an instance where I let off the throttle to slow down and the rpm's stayed up and I continued to accelerate. I pulled in the clutch and stopped and the RPMs where at 3k for about 15 seconds, then slowly dropped back to 1k.

I called my dealer today to talk with them and they said they had another 07RK in for the same complaint. I haven't heard what they found yet.

Anyone else having this problem?

Thanks - Keith

Keith, Unfortunately, I think they all do it. Thanks for starting this! I have a PC and it does it, so does Chief's. Hogbreath has a TMAT and his does it too. Can't be the ECM if it does it with the TMAT. This is a strange one that no one's explained yet. But you're definitely not alone. Hey guru's, what's up with this one? :nixweiss: Hoist! 8)

Interesting. I did not have the problem for the first 9k miles. It only showed up after they fixed my oil leak (new cylinders, gaskets). I have a stock bike except for the A/C, Pipes and SERT. The way it acts though, makes me think it's computer related, ECM or sensors. The ECM is controlling the idle speed, right?

Thicker head gaskets.  So slight change in CR.  But surely that's not enough difference to make the map all meshuga?

Our's did it before head gaskets are replaced. Maybe mine'll get fixed after the gaskets get replaced! If I don't keep joking about these 110's, ;D I might just get pissed about it then! >:( Hoist! 8)

Hoist,

I hear ya. I really love the bike. I expected some problems with the first year and all. Still, I'm about to head out on a 7k mile trip next month. I would like to not have any issues then!  8)

Keith, enjoy the trip man! I just got back from a 3200 miler. The things that broke were more nuisance things. It never broke down and got me home. I love the bike and will deal with nuisances. It's an uneasy feeling though, waiting for the big one! Good luck and ride safe! Hoist! 8)

I have ran into the idle problem since I have had the Torque Calibration upgrade.
There is one fix you can try.
Insulate the ignition wires that run under the tank to the plugs.
If you do this correctly, you will get equal spark to both plugs.
You may need to change the H-D 6R12's to Accel Y2418P's (Platinum center with U-grove ground electrode)
These plugs are not easy to find.
Wish you luck. Ride safe.

I might be wrong about this but don't the fuel injected engines have a TPS, throttle position sensor? I've read somewhere that the TPS, probably a potentiometer of some kind, can have bad spots in it sending bad data or throttle position information to the ECM causing all kinds of problems.....

Just a thought.   :nixweiss:
