Damn Breeze, you'd mentioned slight navigation issues before, but San Diego is a one heluva detour buddy  :huepfenlol2: :2vrolijk_21: .

(by the way, I love those slight detours)

Well, I did mention that I was going to check out the GPS on that ride.....  I did use it to get home.  ::)

I'd never done ANYTHING like that before.  It's a garuantee that I will again.  It's just taking a while to shed the military mentality........ :2vrolijk_21:

Breeze, just realized I had an actual worthwhile question.  How was the GPS unit to use as a nav tool while riding?

What is truly a short ride?  Jamey and I will ride from basically the center of the State of Eastern Virginia to Nelson BC and back.  Enroute we will stop and visit some friends and some relatives. We are planning on the post Nelson trip too, so that is about 11,000 miles or so we figure.  Yes, we have to plan for the remaining pet we have too, so that does mean more than just jumping on and hangin on, but no biggie.  To us, this seemed like a long ride, but Whoop De Doo is going to be doing more riding, hitting more visits from much further South than us.  So a short ride and a long ride is truly seemingly to be in the mind of the rider.

Breeze, have you all but got those military bugs out yet?  When Jamey gets back from the Nelson trip, he is all but out of the military.  What should I be expecting?  Forget about dinners for two - make dinner and plan the extra dish for the next night?

A short ride is any ride on the Sporty.  I get numb a$$ syndrome after about an hour on that one.  Not to mention the fact that is has no bags.  I like the ride down to Nags Head and back to Virginia Beach.  We usually get some food or see family so my rear gets a break.  Lucky for me my FIL (father in law) just got a CVO Springer which means that he wont be ridding the Heritage Springer as much and we can take it.  Compaired to the sporty it's like a recliner.

Candy  ;D Trust me...been there and done that!! HB tends to fergit that the young'uns need lookin after (the doggie kind not the human kind!!). I kinda like to give em food and water EVERY day  :P

Plus some planning is essential!! I'm the designated BSRBD!! (BSR beer drinker) Dry counties and blue laws can ruin a trip!!!  :o

A short ride means put the pets in the kennel.

A long ride means giving away current pets and getting new ones when you return. (Like Pinkie would ever let me do that.)

A short ride is always one that leaves you wanting more at the end.

Don and Candy,  and others interested...    ;)  (but in response to the specific questions)

Don: The wifey said " damn, your eyes focus a lot closer now.  You should do that more often.."  I think that was in response to the thousand yard stare that I'de been sporting for a while.

Don: The GPS performed wonderfully.  It readily told me where I was, and it graciously told how to get to where I needed to be.  It also identified available fuel, which became an issue when I ran out trying to find my way over a set of mountains that I decided to get creative about crossing in the Tahoe area....  (I ended up getting a couple of gallons of fuel from the tractor being used by the group of migrant workers who overtook my position as they were clearing a ditch that I was parked next to....)

Candy:  oh boy.  Here's the deal....  it's kind of like losing a close family member for the victim.  You go from being "somebody", to being "one of those people".  Add to that any and all of the issues that have been buried for years from any and all combat type induced mental health issues that suddenly have free reign to roam, and no one of similar background to bounce things around with, and the sudden influx of spare time, and the sudden appearance of  "total lack of supervision", and.....   well, you see what I mean.  For me, it's been more of a process, precipitated by an occurance, that I am slowly but surely learning to control.    This might be a good thread all by itself!

:nervous: don't even talk bout giving away part of my family Chief!!  :o

I'm A-okay with the longer rides.... no worries here. I just always assume we'll just get home "at some point"  :huepfenlol2:
