ordered my replacement D407 tire last week because i was approaching 8k and middle was slick. went on a road trip... ...now at 9300, glad i noticed this condition, too much flatland riding. sidewalls and outer tread look great. my theory is when tires get rode @ 100mph+ on a regular basis the heat makes them deteriorate faster, i have sleds which require rear tire replacement @ 3k (150mph+) so my question is there tires with different compound within...eg. middle is harder for more wear, and outer softer for twisties and such.

because with a tire used like this one, you should have stopped you drive for a long time.   
It is very dangerous. 
You risks the accident with a bursting.

I have had both Metz's and Avons and run 44 in the back 40 in the front.   My milage ran 7.5k/15K on all my metz's and looks like this set of Avons will do the same.  My factory Lops got about 8.5k/15k.  I will admit that I usually replace my tire when it starts to appear flat or if the tread appears shallow -- I've never seen a "cord" show thru.....

I'm 245lbs  and do long trips with luggage, but no burnouts, and usually ride 1 up.

I have never heard about multiple compound tires so I don't know if they do exist.   I do see that the Avon - Venom X that I run (bias)  now have a radial version.
Are mfgs moving to radial MC tires?  Would be curious about the pros and cons of radials over bias as I'll be replacing mine right before I leave for Nelson this July.

By Billings mine was more like a washer.  With the different tire and wheel, could your actual diameter be greater than the stock tire?

B...we discussed this back when I was thinking about wheels/tires.  Looks like the Metz guy was right about the heat and longevity of that tire on our baggers, IF used for loaded touring.  What's going on with the center...if I remember, the overall diameter of the tire/wheel combo was not much different than the stock 16" and 'Lop

I have a friend here in Oklahoma that has a small independent bike repair shop.  He sells a lot of tires, so he always has a stack of the old pull-offs.  If you look in the stack you can almost always find a tire as bad or worse than the tire in the pic at the beginning of this thread.

Myself, when it comes to two wheels under me, I ain't going to take that chance.  Especially with a $35K++ bike.

I have run them all: D'lop, Metz, Avon,...and I don't think there are any that last any better than the others (My friend with the bike shop agrees).  Just find the tire that you like (or the one that has the coolest tread design) and keep it properly inflated and get out and ride.  Depending on when, where, and how, I usually get 8K - 10K miles per rear tire.

I am interested in the radial motorcycle tire.  If you do a internet search you will find some info on radial motorcycle tires.  Looks like mostly for sportbikers.

I checked the tire in Morgantown WV and used the old penny trick. Ole Abe's head was burried in the tire. Thought that the last 500 miles to home would be fine. .......Well I was wrong. Made it to Haggerstown Md only 150 miles down the road.

The seat nut was not rubbing. Can't believe how quickly this tire wore in the last 150 miles.
