Ouch! I don't want to put any springs on my nuts, but for $150 on top of that pain I'll just live the occasional starting woes.  ;D

Seriously, I do have the minor shotgun blast sound occasionally when starting. I think it's just something you live with on the 103's, I always (O.K. 95% of the time) wait till the nag lights go out and the moto-puter settles down after it 's little dance of self testing and it seems to help. Never had what sounds like the vapor lock problem, but suppose that can be related to the gas cap seal or such much like an auto.

If the Comp nut is loose you will hear it more than just when you start it.

Mrs. WE - I believe your mechanic was talking about the fact that the compensator is spring loaded, and that he is adding more spring pressure.

Jerry
Jerry, how is he adding more spring pressure.....shims?  Mrs.We describes the sound as 'rocks in a blender'....sounds like something more wrong than adding spring pressure to me.  She was lucky enough to have her mechanic 'hear' the problem as she cranked the motor, yet he says he has a 'magic' fix for $150 bucks that only he knows about????  Does this sound right to you?  [smiley=confused5.gif] I think she's right to carry the 'under warrenty' bike in to a Dealer and try to determine what's loose/mis-aligned/or whatever.  JMHO.    [smiley=nervous.gif]   spyder

I believe the best approach would be to take it to a dealer under warranty and have them pull the primary for a look.

I am going to add a different fuel to this fire.   If your throttle body is too tight it will not hold a charge inside the chamber and should be checked.   Check the TPS (Throttle Positioning Sensor)  you should be able to put a feeler gauge under the butterfly and it should be snug at 3 thousands.   From playing have found odd things / kick backs / charge robbing which could also be some of what you guys are seeing.   If nothing else it is something the stealer should be able to check.   The problem is what they say are their variances vs. what really works well.   Also if you have charge robbed and have an exhaust that pulls air back up into an empty port you could see some of that popping some of you are experiencing.

While I am not saying this is what it is it is just something else to look at.

My bike was also having hot start problems. Especially when stopping briefly to get gas. I added cranking fuel through the race tuner and the bike fires much faster.

Well we got home from DC yesterday afternoon, and the shop was not quite ready for us to pick bike up, but they got it ready by 5, since this is going to be one of the last fabulous weekends for riding.
