I got my bike 9/1/07, It now has 12.5K miles on it and I'll add another 8-10k this summer going to nelson.  I don't worry 'bout the miles only the smiles.  I probably will add a BMW 1200LT to the shed just so I can mix up my touring on a different type of scoot.  (hell no, I wouldn't ride a wing!)

Mark

I'm different from you there Mark.  Don't get me wrong.  I love our bikes.  They are certainly my preference.  But I don't hate the modern Wings.  Granted, they've got no real sould.  They also sound like a sewing machine working under a moderate load.  But with the ABS and GPS display screens and all the other actually quite nice bells and whistles I wont' diss one of those bikes; not anymore.  They run good and have capabilities we can only wish for.  If they just had a soul (or at least could speak to ours)....

Not worried about resale..

I will have my Melon as long as I live. I may have other bikes
but this one is going to my oldest son when I am gone.
I dont think I have ever been so attached to a bike. And just
to think...I thought it was the ugliest bike I ever saw when it
first showed up on the Harley website.

People are always amazed at how many miles I have on my bikes...they always say, you've got so many miles on it, how come?  I just kind of give them the deer in the headlight look and say, I didn't buy a touring rig to sit in the garage and collect dust.  I bought it to ride it.  I never understood the purpose of just keeping a bike in the garage and never riding.  When I traded my '02 in the dealer said I had high mileage (45K).  I said, isn't that what a touring bike is about?  Why would I buy a bike and not ride it?

A new CVO Ultra:  $34,000
Accessories:        $  6,000
Being in the saddle and rolling on the miles:  PRICELESS!!

I love my Jester and will put as many miles on it as it will let me.

Cheers :2vrolijk_21:,

With Ernie's new acquisition he stated that he was putting on too many miles on his Cherry. This leads me to my question: How many miles are too much? I know some will say you can never ride your bike enough. Others will say to ride as often as you can. Kelly Blue Book has a formula (which I don't know) to estimate how many miles the average driver will put on a motorcycle for trade in purposes. But let's get real. What is too much? I've owned my SEUC² since December 1, 2006. In that 6 months I've racked up 8300 miles. Call it buyers excitement that I put so many miles on it in the first few months and that may change. I know these motorcycles are special. As a limited production vehicle should the mileage also be limited? Is the high mileage any different on the CVO than a standard HD? On that same note, what is the highest mileage of a CVO that we know of?

Thanks in advance,

AJ
I think it is a matter of how well the bike is cared for.  I could care less how many miles are on it as long as there is a trail of documentation showing it has been properly maintained.  But that's just me.

I guess when determining re-sale value it is truly an individual perspective. What is it worth and to whom?
I'd be just as hesitant over a bike with very little miles. I sold my Fat Boy with nearly 40K on the clock.
Most of those miles accumulated before my first Ultra afterwhich she mostly sat in the shop like a trophy
collecting more dust than anything else. New tires, new belt, new battery (even with the tender) all the
while seemingly "rotting" before my very eyes. She's now owned by someone who appreciates it for what
it is and has and rides it like I used to.

I now ride the snot outta my CUSE2 and would rather be (almost) no where else than in the saddle!
miles, miles, miles . .  .

I just ride it like i stole it.I didnt ride too much 10.000 km in a year since i work during the summer months and cant take long trips.I dont want to sell this and want to keep it as long as i can afford it.A Fatboy is a fatboy and i dont see how it cant be improved beyond this point. If engine dies one day i will just drop another in the frame and keep on. :drink:

I got mine in 12/07 and have put 9700 miles on it.  Aside from all that, what about the warranty?

2 year unlimited mileage!  With these 110s being new and all, I'd think we should shake all the bugs out while they're under warranty.

Hey Troy, I know I'm well into my cups, but is this date a misprint or have I finally crossed over the line?  :o har!  :drink: spyder

I bought a 2002 Ultra Classic in late 2001.  By the time I sold in in late 2003 it had 61,000 miles on it.  I've saw several baggers with well over 100K on the clock.   Take care of em and maintain em and they last a lot longer than they used to.

Boy JC, that's the truth!  No way the old Harleys before the EVO would give us these kinda miles w/o much more attention.  :nervous: (Blood/sweat/& Tears) har!  :drink: spyder

The only Harley dealer I ever heard complain about mileage on bikes was a good friend of mine telling another guy I know that he had to start trading a bit earlier because he was putting 65k to 80k on a bike in less than two years and the HD guy said he couldn't sell them as two years old with that mileage.

His recommendation was to trade at around 45k with a two year old bike to see any real kind of value.

So take it like, ride it more you may as well ride it 'til the wheels fall off.  Ride it less and you are ok for a trade but you missed out on a lot of riding.

So, I figure I'll ride 'em 'til I see something I like better and not worry about it either way.

When I got my SRT 10 I had 20k on it in less than 8 months, sure shot the value in the azz, but I sure had lots of smiles for those miles. :2vrolijk_21:
