Fog/Driving Lights-What's available??
« on: December 28, 2004, 09:56:04 PM »

I've got an 03 SERK that I'm interested in adding fog/driving lights to.  Just want to light up the road a little better and hopefully be seen a little better.  I've read the earlier posts about Harley's new style mounts for driving lights, but I'm leaning more toward the fog lights Harley makes as they are  a little more inconspicuous than driving lights.  Also read the posts about using Harley's fog lights and their high performance headlight bulb-which may be the way I go.
I wouldn't mind using the light bar from Headwinds, but it says on their website that it's not recommended for the screaming eagle RK.  Has anyone used it?  What else is available in the way of mounts and lights other than what Harley offers?
  Any suggestions will be appreciated.

On my last Road King I had the HD fog lights mounted on the front crash bar.  The bar was the Lindby bar and I routed the wiring to the lights inside the bar.  It was a bit of a chore to do the first time but it made for a very clean and really nice looking installation.  Just an idea....  Good luck.

On the 03 SERK, the crash bar mounted lights make a significant difference.  You can wire them a couple of ways.  Some folks prefer them to only go on with either the low or high beam.  Some folks want them wired into a switch blank and some do not.  I found them useful with both low and high beam operating independently of the headlight circuits.  Other thread has covered this install.  If you do this, and have not had the 50amp main breaker that was recalled replaced, it is a great time to take care of that as well as any electronc / electrical leads that you may want for additional accessories.  Additionally, inspect the existing wiring for abrasions that can and will cause shorts in your electrical system.

Hey Skippy,  sorry for the late reply,  I'm having a hell of a time with my puter.  Think it's about done for.  Anyway,  here's what I've done to my ride for lighting.  I've added the 7" Adjure Ice headlight in place of the stock one and also the the 41/2 inch Diamond Cut Ice spot lights for running lamps on the top of my light bar.  On the bottom,  I add Kuryakyn Small Silver Bullets in place of where turn signals would normally be.  To decrease the light for oncoming cars,  I'm running blue bulbs to make it easier on thier eyes in the headlamp and also running lamps.  The silver bullets don't have blue bulbs available as of the last time I checked for those.   I've got very good lighting for night driving.  I still get the "turn your beams" off  flash but hey,  I  know they see me, mission accomplished as far as I'm concerned.   Here's a few pics...

Allpork,  I got em off ebay... was a trial and error thing.  I bought 1 set that didn't work and finally were successful on the 2nd try.  All and all,  still cheaper then buying them locally from a dealer near me.  I'll try to find out who I got em from,  but don't hold your breathe....lol

I hope this works as well as helps... here's the headlight... without my running lamps on.  I may have to much time on my hands today.  [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

Have the HD lights on my engine guard.   Aimed em a little high when I installed them.  Had an 18 wheeler asked "what is behind me a UFO" on the CB I am sure they have saved me a close call more than once. They would be my choice if I were looking.
