« on: January 01, 2005, 09:48:58 PM »

Has anyone noticed tha the valve train on these stock 103 motors is noiser the valve train on a stock 88? I drove a couple of new dressers today and they shure shound quieter than mine.

I noticed quite a bit for the first 3500 or so miles. But it's either quieter now or I'm Just used to it.
I did notice that if I hold my hand out toward the windshield, (back of the hand toward the windshield),  that the noise goes away. So I think that a lot of what we hear is noise reflected off of the windshield.

So David B,
is this a complaint or a compliment, we got these bikes because of more of everything and youare.....do I detect.....bit-hing.....hmmmmmmm.....save it for dealing with your dealer on warranty....as explained in other threads, you will get more engine noise from steeper cam ramps........the choir aint listenin preacher, get a new convert.

No complaints here, just an observation. I just got enough miles on the engine to start getting on it pretty hard. Doing so produced a lot of topend noise, I was just hoping mine wasnt the only one with a noisey topend at high rmp. Just trying to find what clatter is normal and what clatter is  abbynormal on a 103.

I noticed the valve train noise on my 2000 Wideglide after I put the 95 inch kit on it with a cam so when I got the SEEG and it had the same noises I assumed it was normal. It does come and go at odd times though. I read a review that mentioned the valve train noise on them also, so I think we can relax and assume they all have it.

I've ridden 20 to 25 103's and they all seem to produce a comparative amount of top end clatter at high rpm's (3500 to 5500).  In my opinion it's normal for both the 95 and 103 configuration.

No known issues here...perhaps just lucky?
