Home safe and sound, around 4700 miles.  My JB Weld held perfectly - no leak to be seen! :-)   However, the rear cylinder gave up the ghost completely at 2300 miles into the trip, and I got home on a loaner Ultra from the MoCo, who were also kind enough to ship my bike home for me from the Rally.

Glad you made it home safely, but damn sorry to hear about losing a cylinder on your ride. That does not bode well for 110" reliability the more we hear about it.

Cheers!

Dunno if I ever will find out - unlikely the dealer will strip the motor, I guess.  But if I do, I'll let everyone know.  Answer is bound to be heat related though....

Jim,
Based on your response, I'm assuming they're replacing the whole engine for you.  If so, then you're probably right, you'll never find out what really happened.   What happened when the rear jug failed?  Were you riding at the time?

I'm glad that you made it home safely and that the MoCo is taking care of you...as they should.  Good to have you back bro.  :)

Cheers :2vrolijk_21:,

Thanks Charlie.    :2vrolijk_21:  I was cruising along at about 80mph, the motor coughed and went on to one cylinder for a few seconds then carried on as normal.  I arrived at the rally, parked, registered, back to the bike, started it, moved it, went back later, and rode to my hotel, parked the bike.  All fine. Came out next morning, tried to start it, and it would only run on the front cylinder.  Obviously when it cooled down, something had maybe contracted or something, but that was that - wouldn't even think about starting on the rear cylinder ever again....  :nixweiss:

Good evening Jim,

The last news of my baby !  :(

This week, my dealer dismounts my engine for the leak head gaskets.
This afternoon, he phoned me and he need to change the two cylinders and pistons because they have not accepted the hot.

He'll received the parts the beginning of August during his holidays.
My bike will not come back before the second part of August.

Good news :  8)
Tomorrow, my dealer lend to me a FLHTCUI during this time.

Wow, almost as much of a problem as mine, Jacques!

The replacement engine for mine arrived on Thursday, so the dealer collected the bike today.  It's to be done next Tuesday/Wednesday.  On Tuesday they are also dealing with the head gaskets on my friend's.

Good luck with the fix, for your sake, I hope it does not take too much longer to get her running.

The dealer tells me that a valve guide had dropped. Mechanic wasn't in for me to question deeper, so I don't know what happened to the lock ring to allow it to drop (maybe there never was one!  :nervous:) but it appeared that there was, I'm told, no apparent damage to anything else - piston, cylinder, etc were fine. It held the valve open a little, hence the lack of compression.

Anyone seen anything similar?

Jim, something sounds a little fishy in Scotland.

Good looking scoot  :2vrolijk_21:

So if the MoCo is changing out the 110" with another 110" will the number on new 110" match the frame?
