Dash Mount Temp Gauge Sensor
« on: June 14, 2007, 10:16:59 AM »

Doing a Cam & Throttle bore upgarde on my 07 SE Ultra today along with a few other misc things and finally got the dash temp gauge out of the box. Like everyone suggested, going to install the sensor at the oil pan and I plan to use the threaded plug next to the oil drain for the sensor. With all these motor parts on my work bench I took notice to the fron head temp sensor I had to remove to get to the throttle body. The sensor fits perfectly in the threaded plug location at the oil pan and has connecter similar to the sensor provided with the guage. The male end of the connector is availble from parts for a few bucks (can you believe that). It seems to me this sensor should work for the guage in place of the one provided with the kit.. Can anyone answer that one? If not, I'll let everyone know in a few days because im going to try it.

dont have pics... but if your interested in seeing the head temp sensor, pull back the rubber boot on the sensor threaded into your front cylinder head at the rear between the two cylinders. In fact, if you want to remove it to get a good look, go for it. You need a 3/4 inch deep socket - Easy in Easy out.. kind of like removing and installing a spark plug... Now put your curisoity to work and go take a peak.. maybe even a pic too.

Hey Evil, not to hijack this thread, but which cam and throttle body are you using?  Thanks

I wouldn't expect their ohms / degree characteristics to be the same. It would be easy enough to check in boiling water or hot oil, but I would be surprised if they were the same. Please keep us informed.

Chief,

Dahhhh, Good Idea - why didnt i thing of that. I'll check the ohms this weekend and post results. In fact i whould be able to check them at room temp, right?

Trapperdog,

Im installing the SE 251 cams and the SE Pro 50MM Throttle Body.  This TB is pretty much 'plug and play'. It is idenitcal to the stock 48 and the TPS voltage is preset. All sensors on incldued you just bolt on and plug everything in. The flanges that come with the Pro TB also work perfect with the 110 inch heads.

Room temperature would give you one point, and if they're different, then the game is over. One point won't tell you about the slope of the curve, and if they are the same at RT, I would want to check them out in boiling water too, to see if they trend the same.
