Hydraulic clutch levers
« on: June 14, 2007, 06:15:24 PM »

I have found a set of custom brake/clutch levers (chrome of course) that I would like to get, but they are designed for cable clutches. So my question is what is the difference? IS the portion that sits in house different shaped, bored to different sizes or what? Could someone easily alter this from cable design to hydraulic design, or do have to start with fresh billet piece and stamp/drill from start?  John

The brake side will work but the hydro clutch is totally different, The part the sits in the perch is similiar but the part that the cable connects to is replaced with an area that actuates a plunger in the clutch cylinder. Having seen both of these I do not think one would be able to modify the cable type to use on a hydro unit.

The difference is there is no hole in the hydraulic one for a clutch cable pin. Basically if you could take your brake lever and flip it over it'd be a hydraulic clutch lever, but there's some top to bottom differences so it'd be upside down obviously. I s'pose if you HAD to do this, you could cut the handle potion of the lever off, weld it to the stock lever, grind, sand and send out to be chromed. Believe me I find this annoying as well. I've got the complete Skull Series on Elvis EXCEPT the hand levers because H-D in it's infinite wisdon does not see fit to offer any of their different levers in a hydraulic clutch compatible configuration - - - - - -And they wonder why we all buy aftermarket chit  ???

Jim,
thanks I had googled several vendors of hydraulic levers but most were in clutch housing so could not see the shape of the internal piece. john

Of course they could not make it easy, they would loose their mystique!  Maybe I can find the vendor with blank lever and get the hydraulic portion done?  will keep searching, thanks john
