Backrests For SE Fatboys?
« on: June 15, 2007, 07:29:12 PM »

Anybody got any pics of a removable and how its attached? I have removable bags and I don't want to buy it to find that they won't work together. Pics of any good backrest installed on a Fatboy would give me an idea how it looks as well. Thanks. Cheers!

Here's mine.  It's the fixed backplate but it would still look the same, only difference being the docking hardware.  You will also have to change your aerodynamic turn signals to round standoffs in order to clear the removable side plates.
I run with the high sissy bar and huge backrest because of a large luggage bag I keep on the back seat when commuting.

What seat, backrest and luggage rack did you get?  If you have the Harley part numbers, I would appreciate it!!!

Now when you say custom low sissybar, is that a Harley one or did you have it made?  Also I am 6'2" would the tallboy seat work for me?  Is it comfortable?

Sissybar is custom medium low, OEM part no 51477-06. Great product. After taking the pics I also installed the custom tapered luggage rack (53953-06) which adds nicely to the rear end.

When it comes to the tallboy seat, I'm not satisfied with it. Sure, I'm 6 ft 7, so I need to stretch out, but the seat's extra height puts the rider too high in the saddle. Air over the windscreen goes straight into my face. The worst thing, however: The goofy riding position gives you really poor contact with the bike. The tank feels a mile away, and the original handlebar as well. You more like sit on top of the bike than across it, and it adversely affects my joy in curves.

In fact, I have just ordered a passenger pillion to the original seat, and prefer to use that. For my legs, I go for an engine guard with stretch-out highweay pegs.

And finally, the tallboy seat's finish is really cheap, thin and flat vinyl more at home on a budget Honda.

Don't buy it.

That's the kind of information I need from everyone to help me make the right decision.  Also please post a pic with the luggage rack on it, would love to see how that looks.

Thanks Aussie.  That is 2 for 2 negatives on the tall boy.  I have been eye-balling the sundowner next.  My wife and kids are complaining about the attachable pillion that I bought so I really need something.
