It's in
« on: June 18, 2007, 06:39:16 PM »

Well it finally came in. Got a call from Whit's HD today that it's in. They are adding pipes, AC, SERT, etc. They tell me it should be complete by Thursday or Friday. Can't believe it's finally here, but I have the Vin # to prove it. Anyone out there know any of the techs at Whit's. Is there anyone I should ask for to do the raceturner. I have bought a lot of parts from Whit's over the years but have not had them do much work on any of the bikes I have owned. I don't know them very well. My salesman told me they hope to have it ready Thursday or Friday but things could get real busy for them since they have had some sort of shake up in the service dept. They have lost some mechanics and may be short handed. Not a good sign. Oh well at least it's here. Again thanks for all the help and if someone knows of a tech I should ask for let me know, I sure would appreciate it.

DT - Don't know anyone at Whits so no help there but I'll offer my 2 cents on the SERT/tune.

Your bike is not broken in yet so redlining it on a dyno for tuning may not be the best idea.  I would break the bike in and bring it in later for a dyno tune.  500 to 1,000 miles or so.  Speak to the Sevice Manager on this - not a service writer.  Sometimes a re-tune is needed after the first one - a tweak or a touch up.  Very common so get all the details worked out in advance.   Especially since there are personnel changes in service.  If you do not like what you hear from the service manager, I would speak to the GM/or owner.  Not confrontationally or anything, just to be clear on what you expect, etc.  Its in their best interest to deliver the bike to you as expected, and tune it accordingly as well.

Good luck - enjoy your ride!

I'm not going to put it on a dyno just yet! I'm talking about the initial tune to get rid of the lean condition. They don't have a dyno there anyway. I just thought someone might know which tech has the most experience.

They can load the ECM with a good base map using the SERT that should get it running richer.  The MoCo has base maps for them to download.

Dawg,
Congrats on the arrival of your "new baby".  I wish I could help you on techs a Whitts, but I've only visited there a couple of times and have no experience with them.  Like Iski said, they'll load a SERT base map to match your configuration.  When I had all of the things done on mine last November, they loaded base map 84, which worked fine, until I dyno'd it at 1K.  I don't know if map 84 is still the one they use now that they have a new version of the SERT software out.  Hope this helps a little.  Sorry I won't be able to come and watch you take delivery of your "baby".  I'm going to be out of town down in the "Big Easy" for the next two weeks.  Hopefully, we can hook up sometime when I get back and do some riding.
Cheers :2vrolijk_21:,

Agree with all said here.  I don't know anyone at Whitt's either.  Don't do business with them.  I'd suggest Richmond HD (North).  They have a dyno and from what I've heard from two of my friends, they do a good job.

Thanks for the tip TC. After break in I might give them a try. I think there is a HD dealer in VA Beach that has a dyno but Richmond would be closer. Hope to see you on the road soon.

DT,
I'm hoping I'm one of the friends Tony was talking about.  ::)  I bought my SEUC from Richmond North and have it serviced and dyno'd by them.  They've done all right by me.  Treated me very well and did a good job on the Dyno.  They are comfortable with either the SERT or the PCIII there, so you could go either way.  I'm very happy with the work they've done on my bike.

RD, good to hear you had some experience with them. I've got no history with Whit's other than buying parts. The only reason I purchased the bike from them was at the time I was looking they were the only local dealer who had one coming in.

My husband and I use an independent - ProStreetCycles - South Richmond.  They do real good with the dyno tuning.  At least we - and 20 or so others we have referred there have been happy.

Thanks everyone. Mrs. WeCVO,  thank you for recommendation, I have bookmark their site. I have no problem using independents either, I use Full House Cycles in Winchester now but they don't have the tuning equipment. I use them mostly for my Big Dog. I think after I pick up the CUSE I will make a rode trip down to Richmond to talk to both Richmond HD North and ProStreetcycles. Again thanks to everyone for the info.

Congrats on your new bike!  You're probably better off since Whit's lost a few techs- as long as they lost the right ones.  I bought an Ultra from them a while back, didn't get 10 miles before it left a puddle under it.  Took it back, they told me it was the primary drain plug.  Turns out the inner primary and outer tranny seals were leaking.  Took 4 more dealers to get it home.  Not a fun trip >:(
