Cracked Hiway Peg Mount
« on: June 19, 2007, 02:05:58 PM »

A few weeks back, I mentioned on our tip from PEI to Halifax I lost a Hiway Peg.  Well I finally too a couple of pics.  To set the stage, we had crossed the Confederation Bridge and were making our way doing about 70-75 mph.  I had my feet up and the road was really not bad overall.  All of a sudden we hit a hard bump from a pothole probably.  Well, my right foot quickly dropped but luckily never hit the ground.  The bike wobbled but I regained control.  We never did find the missing ped and hopefully it went into the tall grass on the side of the road.

I am assuming that there was some defect in the cast.

zooming in...

The foot rest with the black rubber sticking out of the top will also break.
The long bolt that goes into the end of the peddle will break through the peddle if tightened to tight.
Remove the bolt from the end and pull out the first rubber molded insert and look at where the bolt seats .Its really thin.

Cheap casting could cause serious injury.

whoever designed the required specs for that 'bid' definitely messed up.  They need to redesign a tad stronger, huh?  :nervous: spyder

OK,  so what is the warranty of parts?

I know that quite a few years ago, I bought a helmet lock HD and it broke first use.  When I took it back for an exchange the part folks all looked at me like I'd lost my mind for bringing it back.  I guess I looked back at them with a look that said they'd all lost their minds if they thought I'd stand for a part that would not hold my helmet one time without breaking. I got a new part.  Jamey lost his entire shift linkage off his motorcycle when it was quite new, and the MOCO replaced the entire linkage, no questions asked.  What is the tolerance for parts to be warrantied?
