I was wanting to know what everybody prefers and why what are the advantages and disadvantages? Also who has had problems and what they were?

CVOjunkie, what are you trying to achieve. If saving money on fuel is then my advice would be not to spend it on a new gear case. I forgot my numbers but it was something like you would have to ride over 100,000 miles a year to break even on the furl savings for the price of the gear case.
I have the DD6 in my 04. It has a 28 tooth comp sprocket which cannot be changed
The Harley 6 speed, you can change out your sprockets to achieve your goal.

My opinion, leave it alone unless the stock one broke and you have to replace it.

The reason I want to change is because of the chunks of metal that is coming from the oil drain every time I change the oil. The one thing I would like to accomplish would be a little lower gear ratio in first the only way I know how to do that and still keep highway engine rpm down is go with the baker dd6 and then drop the output pulley (transmission 32 tooth to a 30 tooth) then do a belt change then I will be back to about stock rpm. The overall reason I am wanting to do this is because I pull a trailer and the 103 doesent like low end torque like my 95 did the power and torque curve comes on later so slow speed pulling is kind of a pain and you have to ride the clutch more on take offs.

Just finished installing the SE Six Speed gear set in my '06 SEUC and I love it!. I went with the SE because. I could use my existing case, cost (1505 for gear set,$450 for labor. I have extended warranty and if I ever have an issue on the road I may have a shot at warranty taking care  of it,probally not but it's  a damn good thought. To sum it up I wanted something we could just  drop in , made for the bike ,keeping it as simple as possible. Highly recommend that combo. Hope this helps>>> Greg

Did they have to do anything special with your hydraulic clutch?  Different trap door?

Did the change for the exact reasons. Pulling a trailer. I used to pull another bike when I went on long trips.

I also changed the pulley for a 30....problem the stock belt too many teeth. Could not find a 138 or 137....if you do then let me know. Baker could not even find me one. So after ruining a 139 for it being too long, went back to stock on pulley and belt

Both Baker and Harley have a setup for the Hydraulic clutch. Harley you buy the gear set and door separately. Bakers comes in one kit.

I am also looking into the baker vs jims conversion for the fuel mileage, but I am not concerned with the savings, more concerned with the fuel range and also be able to save the motor going 4k+ for 8hrs a day. I would really like to lower the gear ratio a little on the bottom for a better launch while dropping the rpm about 300 on the big end.

One question I have is: I remember someone here saying the baker is a little annoying in that after shifting down to 1st the shifter will still depress not having the stop like the jims has, if I'm not clear here I'm talking about how the shifter will keep you from depressing it in first just like the stock 5speed. Can anyone elaborate on this if they have the dd baker.

hogasm, could you pm me or post a pic and what it would take to do this? Is this a safe way to travel? I would be interested in traveling two up on my seeg pulling the sefb. I honestly didn't know one could even do this. How far have you traveled like this.

I have had the luxury of a wife that likes to ride her own bike, so never 2 up.

Sold the old pan head and trailer, but still tow a very large pop up camper, loaded with everything you can almost imagine. That trailer weighs about 600lbs fully loaded.

Will look for one of my old pics.

Baker DD6 in polished.  It's very smooth - the 6th gear is great - and my preference to the JIMS(HD SE) 6-speed.

The folks down at Rod's performance were talkin' up the Baker.  I haven't even begun research, but everyone I spoke with down there loves their Baker 6 speeds.

My wife rides mostly on her own but not long distance and not in inclimate weather, such as the reason for the questions about pulling a bike and riding two up. I wouldn't think it would be safe, never saw anyone do it.

I am confused at your responce as I seem to remember you looking for a seat not all that long ago for better two up riding on your seeg. I've seen your wife ride and she can handle that s/g.

Can you (or anyone) answer the other question: does the baker shifter keep pushing down after in first gear or will it keep from deflecting after in first like the stock HD box?

I was looking for a two up seat for the Nelson trip. We had sooo many irons in the fire at that time that I was looking in every direction as to which way we were going to travel. ie 2 up,  2 bikes, ride one and ship one.

Her FLHX has a solo seat and mine has the stock seat, so another thing we looked at was if anything happened to either bike we would have a nice seat for us to ride 2 up.

Have the screamin eagle 6speed gear set in my 06 and love it and pull a trailer with no issues.
