BMW, Blah, Blah, Blah! ;D

TODAY'S UPDATE:

All tests, except for one, are now completed. We compared the new '07A110TQ Engine w/58 mm HPI TB, V&H/S&S SPO's, w/DPP and w/the S&S Tuned Runner Intake. Then did the same w/the FatCats w/Quiet Performance Muffler. Then we did the same w/the FatCats w/Quiet Standard Muffler. (EDIT)Then we tried it all again w/the S&S 54 mm TB and the aforementioned combos. No matter which combo we tried, the combo with the highest flow won hands down! The best combo we found was w/the 58 mm TB, FatCats w/Quiet Performance Muffler, and S&S Tuned Runner Intake. It's doing about 120 HP and just under 130 TQ. And so rideable, I'm told, you can't believe it! Very well behaved! And it runs much cooler! The last step is to see if going even bigger on the TB matters. We're waiting for a 62 mm HPI TB to test and see if this thing keeps going, or if we have found the perfect combo already! This has been an extremely interesting process. The combination of components and the tune is everything! And flow is turning out to be a very important factor in how these 110's run. Even HD is putting 50 mm TB's on the '08's, from what I understand. What does that say? Maybe they'll replace everyone's '07's w/the 50 mm's! ::)

If all goes as planned, I'll pick it up this weekend. I can't wait to get it back. It felt fantastic 2 weeks ago. And that was just breaking it in. Now I get to ride it w/the perfect 110 package in it! This should be fun! :2vrolijk_21:

Yeah maybe Bill, but let me have some fun with it for a little while. Hey you never know, this engine might actually hold together now for awhile. Wouldn't that be special! ;D Hoist! 8)

Hoist, sounds like you went with bigger bore cylinders, 113...120? Or else why the new stock pistons and barrells. I too would like to now the specs. on the cams....name brand, duration ect...And if you can answer this for me, in all your research I guess you determined the heads needed some reworking, and would changing to the SE 50mm tb do any good for us normal folks with small mods. And can it be installed on the SEroadking3 with the cruise control. And can the SE 50mm tb be improved on with bigger injectors? Please do tell.....any advice would help.

Congrats Howie, what cams did you end up with and how is the 2-4k range?

I went with a 595 cam made for this setup. While detuned and breaking it in, it was really good between 2-3k. It was GREAT over 3k! Now w/the FatCats and real tuning, he got the Tq straight up. It's supposed to be almost full Tq at 1800. Joe's extremely happy with all the combos we've been testing. And we see once and for all, what helps and what doesn't. It costs a little more to do it this way. But since I hadn't seen anything new specifically for our 110's, I thought I'd do my own testing. It seems to be paying off! ;)

Yes Hoist, do you no longer have a 110?  Kinda blows the bracketed racing in my category then doesn't it. It'l then be between you, Harry Hubb and SB??

Hey KD/Ron, it's still 110"! I used stock barrels and pistons. I knew there were difficulties w/the dealers getting parts. So I made sure I had the parts to be w.....ty'd, when we built the motor. I wanted to have a completely new top end, with all the best bulletproof chit in it. The cams were matched to the design of the head rework and the new compression, 9.8:1 corrected, by Wes Brown at Cyclerama. I don't know how they would respond in a stock engine though. I worked very closely with Wes as were determining the best components for this project. The whole process has been fun and extremely interesting.  Thanks to Harry for helping out, and turning me on to him!

The 50 mm works fine, is compatible w/cruise control and I would higly recommend it, even in a stock engine. And the stock injectors are fine for stock engines. We tested the stock injectors vs. the 4.89's w/the 58 mm. It seems the stock ones are better w/this build too. It would help for sure, but I would do cams with it. These engines gotta breathe!!! It seems they run so much more efficiently when you put gobs of flow thru them.

If you don't want to do much with your bike, but want to perk it up and get it running cooler, and not get custom matched engine components for the maximum performance output, here's what I would do to every 110, as a minimum:

50 mm SE or 51 mm HPI Throttle Body w/ stock injectors, SE 251 or other similar decent but not crazy cam, Cometic .030 head gaskets, S&S Tuned Runner Induction Intake and D&D FatCats. THEN GET YOURSELF A PERFECT TUNE!!! That's probably the most important part! With a good tune, you'll be getting between 115-120 Tq and 105-110 HP. These have the potential to be great engines. Get the top setup right and hope the bottom holds together! ::)

We're still going racing Ronnie! ;D

Hoist, had some mild porting work done by dealer ( this guy use to do porting for Kendall Johnson Customs I feel good about his work although no flow bench was used ) cleaned up ports, in behind valves and bathtub area....nice job. Ports were ported to 1 / 8th valve size so should have good flow now. Also went with 10.25 compression SE pistons and .30 ceramic head gasket which uped compression to 10.5. Also went D & D Fatcats 2 into 1, SERT, K&N air filter. The cams I went with SE 258's are not giving me near the result you are getting. Hestiates at low RPM's til around 2600-2800 ( hard to tell ) then ..hold on to your ass.....What needs to be changed... this combo is not what I was expecting. I think I got a good start...I thinking change cam's and add SE 50mm tb. The reason I didn't go with the 50mm tb to begin with is I was told it would hurt the lowin torque. What do you see here that needs to be revised ?

Don't listen about the throttle body. Get a 54 or 58 for it. You have headwork and compression. It needs the flow. You might want to try the cams I have too. And most important is to get it perfectly tuned after. You're pretty close now. There's no reason you can't get the engine where you want it to be. ;) Hoist! 8)

Hoist, what name brand tb are you talking about? And will it work with the cruise control on our RK3's. And I agreed about the tuner, I was not real impressed about the guy that did mine. Had to take it back to get some of the dece popping tuned out. Still not where it should be. Who is your tuner, and can I get him to do mine? Also tell me more about this cam..duration and how do I get one, ect..

Horsepower Inc makes the throttle body. It's compatible with the cruise. My tuner is near Albany, NY. Joe's Cycle Repair, Mechanicville, NY. Bring your bike up there and leave it for a week. You'll be amazed how it will come back! He's a Master with the PC!

Joe can install the throttle body, setup the Fuel Injection and do the tuning. You'll have to get the cams installed yourself. Call Wes Brown at Cycle-rama in Pinellas Park, FL. He can make you the cams. With the work you've already done. I think this stuff will match nicely on your motor. With that compression, you might do better than me. I wanted to keep mine under 10:1 and take the peak numbers hit. I could have gone with a more radical cam too. But I wanted really good rieability, besides the performance. So I kept it a little milder. If I were you, I'd also go for that S&S Tuned Runner Induction Intake too! Joe can supply and install that. Call Wes and call Joe. I'm sure you'll end up happy. Use my name with both of these guys! ;)
