Cool Ride
« on: January 14, 2005, 01:18:21 PM »

Since it's 16F here this AM, I thought that I'd take a ride, seein' as how it's sunny and all.
 My coworkers and wife went together and bought me HD (gerbing), heated gloves, socks, thermostat controller and jacket liner for christmas.
 Hell, I was just itching to try them out.
 Well they work pretty good. I had a bit of cold skin below the front of my helmet on my neck, and my legs were a bit cool, but not bad. The best thing was that my toes and fingers were not cold at all.
 I did notice that my volt gauge was reading over 15V due to the load on the electrical system.
 Also had to keep the face shield cracked open a good bit to prevent fogging.
 Heck, if I add the pants liner and a neck wrap, I'll be snug as a bug in a rug, even at these temps! [smiley=earmuffs.gif]

Oh, forgot to mention one thing.
 If you buy any of the HD stuff, it gives you a card that lets you know how many things you can plug in on various HD bikes without overloading the charging system. On my bike it looks like I can plug in gloves, jacket, pants and socks and still have reserve charging capacity. My setup is the HD gloves, Gerbing's jacket liner, socks and thermostat. Hey Mobe, thats cool, I mean hot, awe heck, that's AWESOME! I picked up some heated gloves off ebay (New) from a harley dealer for $100. They also have the outter shell jacket for about $235. I was wanting to go your route and get the Jacket liner, gloves, socks, and maybe the pants too! I have always rode year round here in Memphis and it can get a bit chilly at times. Since I may be getting my scoot around the coldest time of the year I wanted to be prepaired. There is NO way I'm going to let my lil bananna sit in my garage while it's cold outside! It may spoil and change colors. [smiley=stunned.gif] [smiley=lolk.gif]                                                                     JR [smiley=laugh.gif]

Mobe, does it say that you can plug the gloves, pants liner, jacket liner and sox in on the SEEG and still be O.K.?  How about two suits??

JC when I was up a gerbing the other day Dotty Gerbing told me that you can safely plug 2 setups (sox,pants,liner and gloves)in without overloading the electrical system.  I think she said one persons setup would draw 33watts.

When I get home and dig it out I'll scan and post it here. I also think it will handle 2 complete suits.

JR; you are right, HD doesn't show heated socks. Mine are from Gerbings, sorry for the confusion.

From Gerbings website;

Jacket = 77 watts
Pants = 44 w
Gloves = 22 w
Socks = 22 w

Total for 1 person = 165 watts
