Where to put the GXM-30 Antenna
« on: July 09, 2007, 03:01:23 PM »

Took the plunge and bought a Zumo 550>>>Wow it is awesome and in keeping with the brotherhood of OCD and Max Bling>>>I'd like to install the GXM -30 antenna so I can get the Weather...I know some of you all have experimented with the antenna placement>>> Where does it work best, In the faring, on top of the unit,????. My first choice would be inside the faring but if that doesn't work what are my options>>> Thanks Greg

Here is a link that shows the mount mentioned in previous post - Garmin Zumo 550 and Accesories @ Cycle Gadgets. Scroll down that page and look for "Accessories for Garmin Zumo 550".

Thanks dood.... I'll start there unless I can come up with a better idea. I wonder if I can shorten the cable so it isn't all over the place. Looks like I could cut it and use a connector, maybe like a coax connector..

The GXM-30 XM reciver/antenna works fine installed on top of the AM/FM radio case under the fairing on FLHT's.

This thread covers Zumo/GXM-30 installation on FLHT's in great detail: http://www.zumoforums.com/zumo/viewtopic.php?t=226

Me too!!
I opened up the back of mine, but quickly closed it again, its got a small 4 pin connector inside, but it's wayyyy to small for me to start f@@cking w/ it!

I had mine there and a few other places inside the fairing as well, reception was not optimum so I moved it outside.

Someone needs to do a review of this thing with the GXM-30 - this is how you get the weather info with the GPS right, give us the scoop on how it works to convince us its worth the extra money, I mean after all its not like its chrome ;D
