XM WX Package Name: Skywatch
 Fisherman
 Sailor
 Master Mariner

Subscription Pricing (monthly) $9.99
 $29.99
 $29.99
 $49.99

One-Time Activation Fee $14.99
 $50
 $50
 $50

From XM Radio. The FM thingy seemed to work well in the truck so I thought it would work on the bike. As far as buying a second antenna, I just use 1 GXM for all (boat, truck, bike)

the XM weather package you want for is the XM / Navtraffic / Weather for GPS package - 16.94 a month. The $100 packages you see are for PC systems for radio / tv - stormchasers, that sort of thing ........................

Gary, my GPS is a combination street level mapper and a marine grade chart plotter. It does not have traffic capability, and the weather is much more "involved" then with a standard weather unit.

These are the plans available for the unit I and AJ have.
http://www.xmradio.com/pdf/existing/weather/grd_subscription_pkg.pdf
http://www.xmradio.com/pdf/existing/weather/ma_subscription_pkg.pdf

I'll have to look into the other plan, but it is not listed as being compatible.

I tried it in the fairing like you do. Didn't like the wire like that, and it flipped a couple of times from bumps (we have a few here in the northeast).

I was using it stuck to a piece of steel on top of the unit, but the antenna would pop off that too.
That is why I went with the inside mount. I'll buy one extra antenna and move it form the truck to the boats.

I agree with Porthole, the FM Transmitter is substandard to the Aux Cable, alot more clarity.  My 2730 has an FM Transmitter and I don't use it except in my wifes car which has no Aux or Tape player.

Newsflash, the gxm-30 antenna is the "XM Radio", not the GPS unit. I just bought a second antenna and found out the hard way.
So much for burying one antenna in the fairing and putting a 2nd in the truck.

And I tried the "Skywatch" weather package.  :smilie_daumenneg: It sucks. Radar updates every 15-16 minutes, At 60 mph you could drive right through a brief summer thunderstorm before it registered.

I think the Marine package $30/mo is the one I will get, when they put it in a unit like the Zumo or Street Pilot.

Sorry man, thought you knew that.  Thats the reason why you don't get any XM Serial Number Information until you plug the Antenna in.

Having multiple XM's around the house, never even gave it a thought. I have one for the house that we take on vacation, the boat, backyard etc, and have several antennas for it.

Just "assumed" and I hate using that word  :nixweiss:

I think it really stinks that Garmin set up the unit like that, kind of takes some of the portability out of being portable

Yeah I can see that, I have XM and GPS built into my truck so I don't really sweat it much and my wife doesn't like XM so it works out good for us.  But I would like the traffic information in the truck, but I just stick to the XM traffic channels and hope for the best.

So do I, but never turned it on because of the portable stuff.

I have a Zumo 550 with the GXM-30antenna.  I have an '06 SE Ultra.  I ran the antenna from the handlebars down under the tank and back to the saddlebag so that I could leave a tail in the saddlebag when I was not using the antenna.  In the saddle bag I took one screw out of the lid retainer and inserted the mounting plate that comes with the unit.  The antenna fits nicely right below the lid when it is closed.  I think the unit is great and I subscribe to the weather service.  It is pretty handy for weather alerts as you are riding along or checking out the forecast for the next few days where you are or the cureent weather where you are headed.  Definitely worth the extra cost to me just for the alert feature considering South Texas weather.
