If you want to see a real wobble on a bike, take a look at this:

Never had a wobble that bad...however, would hitting the rear brake hard help reduce/stop a wobble enough to gain control?  I ask this question to anyone that may have tried this either successfully or unsuccessfully.  Thanks, Rich

Once had a very experienced rider tell me that if you just made yourself take your hands off the bars, the bike would straighten itself on its own. I don't want to ever see if he is right.

WOW - thats a wobble. I don't know, but gut says rear brake hard will lay it down hard, and letting go of the bars would high side hard. Again don't know just thinkin aloud here, maybe ABS is the answer - maybe HD couldn't fix the wobble so they just made it manageble? I had a Yamaha Venture that had a bad wobble, throttle thru it worked on that one.

I know this is going to sound wrong but what do you have to lose.
If you can keep your head still and can apply the bar in the same direction the bike wobbles you can gain control again.
When the bike wobbles left turn left or when it turns right turn right and down shift. It is hard to do but if you pull it off it will work.
Yes I have done it. When it was over I needed beer and fresh underware.
Notice in the video the head of the driver is out of control. That's what you have to keep from happening.

Thanks for the feedback.  After 32 years of riding and many of those years riding like a nut I never encountered such a bad wobble.  My previous Road King had a wobble during certain wind conditions while catching air behind a car or truck but I always rode the bike out of the minor wobble not letting it get that bad.  I guess you can't let the wobble get beyond what can be controlled from the standpoint of riding out of it.  Maybe I am just lucky or my experience (instinct) kept me out of trouble.

I agree that you have to keep your head and body from making the wobble worse and use your arms and legs to help stabilize the wobble not make it worse.  Rich

I only had one nasty wobble.  It happened after going through an oily turn in the dark.  Darned if I know how I stayed up.  I do remember stopping and sitting on the grass for a while afterward!

I had a tank slapper on a 600 Hurricane back in the day...being very stupid...my arse rose in the seat as I started to high side and I grabbed the handle bars for dear life and gave it a little gas and...I am still here to talk about it.  Threw away the jeans and took a while with some leather polish to the saddle to get the stain out but...

I've had the best luck with:
body to one side, (weight on one board/peg)
Pull the bike to me,
little bit of throttle until the wobble fades,
then yank the bike down hard through the situation that caused the wobble...

I've only done it a few times, but it's worked for me.

I think the key is to change something. Whatever that is, change it, which will let the bike stabilize and then you're through it.

It sure shakes a body up though, doesn't it!

Quite the comic, aren't ya!  >:(  and quite astute too!   ;)

I decided I was gonna get the hell off, and realized that I'd beat the wobble on the way out the door!  So I did it on purpose after that, and it seems to work pretty well.  I think it all boils down to changing the moment of motion vs reaction for the bike, since it can't change it for itself...

I wouldn't want to get too far off the side if it was really violent though 'cause you just might get tossed off, but so far so good!

OK guys I been reading and some of you want to get on the gas to get out of the wobble.
Well I can say with that dam wobble going on you can't get a proper grip on the throttle to
give it any gas. All I had time to do is put the bike in a handle bar control turn one way or the other and slow down for less
tire drag on the front wheel. Slow down my down shifting.

Never thought on shifting weight but in a way that can have the same result. I think.   :2vrolijk_21:

any way what ever works

I am not kidding I piss my pants
