Yeah, I noticed Cape Fear left alot to be desired when I was up there last September.  Appleton's is the same way.  Wonder if they just KNOW they're gonna get the AAFES money for delivering Military Purchase Program bikes..........therefore they just don't give a chit.............or if they just plain ol' don't give a chit in military towns?  I've been to Chattahoochee HD, and it is a great dealership.  Can't explain that other than they're kinda off the beaten path from Ft. Benning........there's only one BCT there plus a few spooks, and it is mostly TRADOC and civilians, plus a CRC.......whereas Campbell and Bragg are straight up operationally oriented installations.  I dunno.  I will tell you this though.  Appleton's IS NOT an MSRP stealer.

WHAT???

Hey moderators, here's another one for the BS bin!

I don't know what his problem is.  He lives in Augusta, GA..........Nowhere near Clarksville, TN or Fayetteville, NC.  So what the fug does he know?  Again, it appears he has a piece of wood impaled in his fourth point of contact.  Oh well, he'll get over it.  If he doesn't, then you know my take on the situation:  Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo him!  I don't really give a chit.

sounds like there are lots of MSRP dealers out there, unless noone wants to admit to paying over msrp.

what is the typical charge for freight and setup?

I just got hooked for 350 freight and about 500 stealer prep.
Don't know if it is true but a couple of years ago I heard every stealer pays the same amount for freight. A flat 125 per unit, no matter if it is going to Miami, Portland or Austin.

Freight is a fixed $270 and is listed at the bottom of the spec sheet.

The following was just copied from the H-d.com site:
Quote
Wheel Option N/A

 Chrome Engine Covers Option N/A

Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI) Standard

 Security System Option $345

 California Emissions $200

 Freight $270

 ABS Standard

 Cruise Control

Dealer prep is where they can get you.

Really I'm just venting a little.

I'm a previous customer, yet because Harley is only giving them a few CVO Ultras, my dealer feels they may need to gouge me for $1500 to help pay for their new building. (not really the building, but because the market will allow it, and we are the market!!!)

Harley prices the bike at $35,000, but won't give me the option of a color map on my nav, or an air bag option, or reverse, and the new colors don't really light my fire.

Reports of heat related reliability issues continue to surface...

And all of this doesn't matter because I still want the '08, I just don't want to pay $1500 over + a setup (prep) fee on top of that.  It seems our brethren on the Gold Wings don't have to go through the part of ownership that includes too high of a price initially plus the overcharge plus freight or prep or whatever else...
Yeah, and they also get the luxury of their bikes losing about 40% the minute they drive it away from the dealership...ya can't beat that.  ;)

I "did the deal" with the Dealer (Mid-Ohio Harley-Davidson in Sprigfield, OH) one week before the 08's came out.  Paid MSRP, no freight, no dealer prep.  Building the Trike is supposed to be totally separate, but not sure if that will work out in the end.  I would have propably paid what he wanted as I want to do business with this Dealer since he is the Trike builder and I have had really good experience on the old Trike for the last 2 1/2 years.

Ride Safe.

Just for grins I did a little checking on Kelly Blue Book retail values for 2004 Ultra (FLHTCUI), 2004 Gold Wing ABS, and 2004 Valkyrie Rune.

Ultra      -   $19595 MSRP, $16190 KBB
Gold Wing - $18999 MSRP, $13265 KBB
Valkyrie    - $24499 MSRP, $18240 KBB

At first glance, it looks like the Honda riders are sucking hind t_t, right?
Well, lets look a little closer at the numbers.  First, the average Harley rider has been paying more than MSRP, especially for Touring models.  Let us assume the average gouge by the dealer was 1K on the Ultra (it was probably more in many parts of the country).  At the same time, you can get anywhere from 1K to 3K discount on the Honda in most any part of the country. If you add the additional dealer markup to the Ultra MSRP, subtract the average discount from the Honda MSRP, and then compare to the used retail values you will see that the resale value advantage is largely a myth.  What was true a few short years ago is no longer true, and with the current market situation Harley's resale "advantage" will continue to evaporate.  For the first time in many years, the supply is larger than the demand.

Well, maybe if I look around a little I can find a dealer to sell me a white one for MSRP, no freight and no prep???

It sure beats switching to a Wing and I can wait a few months until the supply of '08s builds a little..besides, to to take a line from an old Tarryton cigarette commercial.."I'd rather fight than switch!!!"

If anyone out there is old enough to remember Tarrytons....

Just saw a post in the SEEG section from 05Candyman:

I traded it in for an '07 Goldwing and couldn't be happier.

This thing is ten times the bike that POS could ever be. I feel great knowing Harley will never get another penny out of me for any of their over-priced, glorified junk. I'll miss the looks and sound of the cherry, but that's it. I also wanted to thank anyone who has helped me here and say this site is great, but Harley has left a bad taste in my mouth with all the problems I've had with mine and I'll never look back now. I look forward to racking many comfortable, smooth and worry-free miles on this 'wing..

I love my Harleys and I never understood 'til recently how someone could ever ride anything else.  I guess thats why they make different bikes.  Maybe he'll be back in the fold after awhile.......
