I don't Brian. My thought is that the 04/05 are now just part of a much larger pack. They'll kind of get bundled together as they're all just SE Glides of some sort or another. Visually I agree that ours still stand (especially the red ones). But a lot of new shoppers (i.e., the guys who set the market value) will be more inclined to look past our platforms to the newer ones just because of the accessory options. Gotta remember, guys or gals buying a $30k + SE Glide or Ultra are spending discretionary money. For folks doing that more bells and whistles are just better; period.
If retrofits become available for the audio kits we'll be better off. But the radios do come from entirely different manufacturers so it's not a sure bet that will happen. Don't get me wrong, suddenly being ugly red headed step children or not I still love this red bike. Have no desire to go immediately trading or anything like that. In fact have already been out in the garage talking to it just to let it now that I still loved it even if HD did not. So I'm sure it's feeling much more secure right now. But for purposes of a market setting valuation discussion consider the following:
1) An 06 or 07 model with reasonably good looks and, generally speaking, all the bells and whistles that existed on 04 and 05 models along with a few modern conveniences that, at least so far, can't exist on the 04 and 05 models.
or
2) An 04 or 05 model with reasonably good looks, more time on its clock, and certain conveniences that are just unavailable for it compared to newer models.
Those things being so there's no way the values of our bikes have just gone up. The only thing that might help anyone looking to sell an SEEG in the short term will be the normal hype associated with new year model releases and the increased interest that goes along with IF that interest and it's concomitant demand is met by unavailable product. Short of not being able to buy something they want, however, there's little here that I see that drives up the value of a comparable but older and slightly less equipped model.
Don't get me wrong, that is not a complaint. I didn't buy the silly bike for any hope of stellar resale. I bought it because I liked it and wanted to ride it. Absolutely nothing more. But I think we're pacifying ourselves a bit if we look at the new models as something that will somehow support or even increase the values of the models we've been sitting for a year or two already.
