Yes I'm also disappointed in Harley. I was hoping for a Jim's type 120 cu.in. SERG with a wild paint scheme similiar to the my SERG. The paint schemes the last two years have been nothing to get excited about. I might as well take a stock 08 RG and upgrade to a 120 cu.in and look for a custom painter.

Harley's graphics artists continue to use the same boring style graphics. Their is a done of candy colors to chose from maybe they should sub out to House of Colors and fine some better graphic artists. The CVO's were sharp bikes. If you pay $35k you want it to be unique.

I'll take yours in trade for LD  ;D

I hate to be the lone dissenting voice here, but anyone who says the colors of the '08 CVO Anniversary Ultras are the same as the non CVO anniversary must have vision limited enough that they shouldn't be riding!  Always remember that the green light at an intersection is on the bottom!  For everyone's info- the FLHTCUSE3 105th Anniversary colors are Crystal Copper & Black Onyx.  The non-CVO Ultra Anniversary colors are Copper Pearl & Vivid Black.  -Steve

:(  Also, since I seem to have to point out the obvious:  "no matter how you shake and dance

Hadn't been near San Diego H-D in a couple months, and even though I'm pretty much done with them as a customer, I still have some friends who work there. I stopped down Saturday to see if they had any new 08's and also to say hello to those aforementioned friends. Ran into IROAR as mentioned on the LD for Sale thread. A good friend of mine was also there and he and his fiancee (contrats Mary & Jerry) were waiting for the very first 08 to be delivered from SD H-D. A 2008 Electra-Glide Ultra Classic. Out the door price of 26k and change. Cobalt Blue with everything but ABS.

Jerry told me if you buy the ABS option, you cannot do any work on your own brakes. Warranty stipulates dealer serviced only. And that includes changing brake pads. I am opening this issue up to debate here as I would like to know more about this.

That's kind of like the difference between grey and light black.

My dealer has a V-Rod with the serialized paint and they have several "other" plain anniversary painted models.  You'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between the Crystal Copper and Copper Pearl as well as the Black Onyx and Vivid Black.

I counted in my new '08 catalog and there are 18 different Harleys this year available in the anniversary paint colors.  My dealer has a new RK in the 105 colors and it looks just like the V-Rod about 15' away.  I'll be honest and say that I didn't know there was a "different" name for stock 105's and SE 105's.

I currently have an '08 SERK on order with this dealer and I'm wondering just HOW different it will look from a standard RK.  At 20' one would be hard pressed to just notice a passing difference.  The dealer said that I shouldn't worry because of the "extra" bling that will be on my SERK over a standard RK.

I'm not unhappy with my decision of the '08 SERK 105 model as I know it will still be a very limited number of production and the gold leaf within the colors will be an added plus.

The only unhappy thing about my new '08 SERK is that they just told me yesterday that this is the most wanted bike SE model and not to expect it before November.

It's just that with all the 18 different models opping the 105 colors, our SE versions will just blend into the great mass of "other" Harley anniversary models.

It is like 100th, the 03's if they had come in black / silver in SE models. The 03 gold/black SED and SERK really were identifiable and still stand out in any crowd. I am afraid, even to us enthusiast, all 18 105th anniversary models will look the same. IMHO, either the SE's or the regular models should not have been available in the copper/black.
Have not seen a SE in the 105th color but I assume the copper crystal and black onyx are loaded with flakeand the standard 105th's are without.  :nixweiss:

Probably a good idea in the beginning B B, simply so they can get feedback on the system and how it's working.  Also, most likely a liability issue for the MoCo that they want to avoid.

I recall when Jeep got the first ABS systems in the Cherokee, we replaced a lot of componenets until it was no longer an issue a few years down the road.  ABS is sensitive to a lot of things and the computers pick up input that can trigger the brakes.  In cars, tires that are as little as a quarter of an inch off in wear trigger poor ABS response even under normal braking.

Not sure what it could be on a bike, but I'm in for letting the MoCo figure it out.  Wish I would have had it in my off-road excursion in Nelson it may have just saved my azz.

I was at the Latus in Gladstone Saturday and asked about 08's. They said they weren't getting any until next month let alone cvo's. I said hmmmm, I have a new friend picking his cvo ultra any day already at the dealer. They seemed shocked.

My personal opinion is the Motor Company took a giant step forward with the 2007 SERK with regard to the paint (gold Leaf), front fender, tires, etc. The 2008 took a step backward with the paint, and front fender and a slight step forward with the 6 gallon fuel tank. I have experienced ABS on other bikes and did not care for it. After suffering through 3 fuel guage replacements, replacement of jugs, and unnecessary recalls by the Motor Company the bike runs great and looks great. The Motor Company should have released the 2007 SERK in 2008 as the anniversary bike and released the 2008 SERK in 2007.

B B,

Highly unlikely that H-D could legally stipulate dealer service only on the brakes, anymore than they could force you to take the bike to your dealer for all other maintenance or to use only H-D parts, fluids, etc.  However, you do need special tools to do basic things like bleed the brakes or diagnose ABS pump issues.  The new version of the Digital Technician system will be needed to cycle the valves in the ABS pump and get all the air out during the bleeding process.  Eventually I imagine the aftermarket will have tools available, but initially I doubt anyone but a dealer will have the proper tools.  Now, if all you're doing is changing pads, no special tools are needed since you can do that without opening up the hydraulics.

Can anyone explain to me the special significance of a 105th anniversary?  I understand 50 and 100 years, but what makes 105 special?  Assuming they survive that long, will we now see anniversary models from H-D for 110, 115, 120, ad infinitum,  or will they start having an anniversary every year, or what???

Jerry,
H-D issues Anniversary models every so often and have shown a penchant for odd years to " celebrate " My personal two cents is that it is a marketing tool and nothing more than that. Some of the " Anniversary " models seem to show up in years with little change from the previous year or so - - - 85th and 90th come to mind.

I took one of those in trade on a new Porsche, that's how Cindy found out about Road Kings and that has cost me a few bucks since and ultimately what got me into the SEUC.
