CUSE2 Tire Pressure Loss
« on: July 18, 2007, 05:18:51 PM »

Anyone had a leaking tire issue with their '07 Ultra? Apparently between delivery to my dealer and pick up by me the service manager noticed the rear tire had lost significant pressure. When I went to pick up the bike SM informed of this issue. SM stated that he went ahead and replaced the tire and told me that if I still had tire pressure problems to give him a call and he'd order a new rim as that would have to be the problem. Let me tell you. That wheel loses about 6 pounds of air pressure a day. The new wheel was ordered first week in June and is now on double backorder. The bike is pretty much a show bike- can't ride it, just show it to people.
What's the best way to express my displeasure to the MoCo?

Welcome aboard Bob! Why don't you ask him to put another wheel on, until the new rim comes in. Then you can still ride the bike in the meantime. ;) Hoist! 8)

And if there was any confusion, the bike is brand new with this rim problem.
Thanks Hoist. I thought there might be "something special" with the CVO rim so would never have thought to ask. Wonder why the SM didn't suggest an alternative rim.......  JUST KIDDING !! I can think of a few reasons. More work/headache for them?

Yeah it kinda sucks going thru this crap. But you learn that they don't offer you anything. You have to ask and you have to know what you want. They shouldn't argue about the extra work, once you ask for it. Tell them you're going away with it. Hoist! 8)

They definitely droped the ball on this one. I just don't get some of these dealers.

Did anyone check the valve stem or core? How about removing the wheel and dunking it in a tub of water. That test is stiil being used to find a source of the leak.

I'd mention some casting defects on the wheel but that'll just get those signs waving PICS PICS PICS ! I will try to get a picture of the defect when I get outta work in an hour. My dealership must be too high tech for the old reliable tub of water. It's raining so hard here now that maybe I should soap up the wheel and roll the bike outside and look for bubbles. Oh, that's right. I read in another thread that you shouldn't get your bike wet or wash it with water Ha!

Don't know anything about the dealership so I probably shouldn't flap my gums, but if this is the way the service department diagnoses something as simple as a wheel and tire losing pressure, I hope you never have a complicated problem for them to work on.  I realize there are fewer and fewer real "mechanics" any more, just a bunch of part changers, but this is totally ridiculous.  No high tech equipment needed to find a 6 psi per day leak, just a tub with some water.

If it were me, I believe I'd have a little chat with the dealer principal about this situation and invite him (or her) to come up with a wheel ASAP.  You just provided him with more than an $8k gross on one bike, which is kind of like hitting a grand slam in the retail world.  I think he could at least afford to spend a hundred or two to make the bike rideable until the backorder is cleared up.

Come on now, that would take a little effort.

Maybe I should try this one on 'em at their service dept. "Whenever I am riding and lean to the left, the bike wants to go left. What do you suppose is causing it."
