McGwire is the guy who intentionally missed a shot at hitting 50 dingers as a rookie so he could be there when his baby was born.  He's never been the "jerk" or prima donna too prevalent elsewhere.  Just never liked it that he's cast with the rest of the lot.

You lie down with dogs, you get fleas Don, simple as that. You can feel bad for the guy, but at the end of the day ask yourself. why did he retire when he did ? I admire a lot about him, and it's sad he has to be spoken about in the same context as Bonds, but he put himself there. You don't have to like it but it is what it is.

Yeah, I know.  Some guys just the short end because of the jackasses they get lumped with though.  He put himself with the crowd.  And he's a big boy.  Got a feeling his retirement is better than mine too.  So he's probably worrying less about it than I am  .
