2007 Tranny question
« on: July 25, 2007, 03:18:22 PM »

I own a SERK (FLHRSE3) with about 4,000 miles on it.  It runs good with V&H slip-on ovals, K&N, and a HD SERT -- but the tranny makes some noise in 5th and some in 6th gear too.  I know this is a problem HD has with the six speed tranny.  Has anyone added the Baker transmission upgrade (F6F)?  Any other suggestions for reducing the noise?

Thanks

A good friend and riding buddy of mine has an '07 Street Glide and he did the F6F fix from Baker.  He's now happy with it...said it quieted right down.  Not cheap though...I think he said that parts and labor were about $1,300 or so.

I remember reading in some forum that someone suggested a specific brand of trans lube and after the breakin, the new oil quieted down the whine.

I've got a new '08 SERK on order and right now I'm riding my '76 FLH Shovel and with that you don't even want to talk about funny noises.  With quiet mufflers I can barely talk to my wife on the back with all the gear and motor noise.

So on my new '08 I shouldn't be complaining about anything pertaining to noise.

I'll probably still change out the oil after the 1k breakin just to help it out some.

If it is Redline oil, exactly which type/weight is the replacement oil?

Thanks.

Not sure of the weight, but it's called Redline Heavy Duty Shockproof.

I've run the Redline Heavy Shockproof in the tranny since the first drain and have no noise or problems.  Shifts smoothly and is quiet.

Thanks for the reply...

I'll have to get me some of that stuff for my new '08 if I can get it delivered.
