Interesting that the mileage differs so much and not sure I buy the aggressive riding style as to why you got such low mileage on the tire,  I to ride very hard and aggressive check tire pressure every 2 to 3 days and when I looked back at my log book actually got 12,029miles on the stock dunlop before it was time to replace it.  What kind of air pressure are you running in your tires.  Heck I get at least 8,000-9,000miles on a Metlzer and they are a very soft tire.

Think its worth starting a poll on rear wear.  Seems to be a wide range of mileage.

I think we may want to re-think the title. Something tells me "Rear wear" may get a wee bit off track! [smiley=vrolijk_4.gif]

Actually, that was my first thought as well.
Jeez, I'm sure he's a legend in his own mind, do we really need to fan the fire? [smiley=vrolijk_24.gif]

The best I could get was 6000 miles on my ST1300. It's not a Harley, but I'd cruise at 140-150 kph(85-90 mph). Was running Michelin Pilot Road  tires. Heat was the wear factor. The faster speeds caused this heat and the tires wear faster.

Changed mine out at about 7500 miles with a little rubber left but not much.  Had reached the wear bars.

On my old '98 FLHTC was getting arounf 15000km (9000 mi). Just changed the tire on the SEEG at 17500 km (11000 mi). A lot of my riding buddies are still only getting 12-15000 km on rear tires on other baggers.

So what is the average for a front tire on a dresser.
I'm thinking that a lot of people don't keep their bikes long enough to need a front tire.
My average has been 21 to 24 thousand.
Usually change the front every third rear tire

MFG

WOW 12000 miles and the police change theirs! I have always gotten over 20k with a front.

But back to the rear tire.
I have an American Legend trailer painted to match the silver and black 03 dresser and am very sure the load of that trailer is hard on the rear tire. I have approx 10k miles on the trailer and have noticed that it really causes wear on the rear tire of the bike.

5700 Miles and only 33mpg average 85% Hi Speed Hi-Way driving.. My guess is one is directly proportional to the other.  Its all in the wrist action.

My 89 Heritage didn't do well on rears. burnouts?, My 03 Ultra got over 10k. All my bikes got 20k or more on front tires. I check air every day I ride.
When I brought my SEEG home the first time I parked it and planned a long ride the next day. I started to back it out of garage and noticed it didn't feel right. The front tire was almost flat. The valve stem was loose [smiley=brood.gif] not happy..I tightened it, aired it up and brought it back to the dealer. Told them to re-check everything.
Good time to try burnouts would be when your close to 2/32...I mean your gonna get a new one anyway... [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

The 1st rear tire on my SEEG lasted just short of 14K (134??) miles.  I was very pleased, as I usually got around 10K on the rears on  my '94 Special.  Front tires are always around 30K miles.  I check air pressure weekly (not enough) and never do burn outs.  I do hate to "throw unused tread away" and have been known to run a tire past the suggested tread depth change level.  I'm getting around 40 mpg average.  Always find it interesting how much these two indicators vary among bikes and riders.  One of the Elec. Glide riders that I currently ride with always beats me in both categories. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Those of you that are running Metzler tires, what size are you using? Will a 160 work? Parts guy at the dealers didn't have a clue. He could Only recommend Dunlops! [smiley=thumbsdown.gif]
