I also have one of those on the back of my tourpak. They are applied w/adhesive tape, and I imagine they could be removed w/a hair dryer and fishing line like some have removed reflectors off fork legs. :nixweiss:

Hey Gary, Do you thimk that method will work and not booger up the leather on his TP?  I thought of that, but then held back offering that method since the leather is merely a plastic derivitive and would likely shrink and/or distort from the heat.   :nixweiss:  Beats me, but that would be my only worry when trying to remove the medallion..............but then again, why would anyone want to remove such a remarkable piece of OCD satisfaction?   :nixweiss: :nixweiss:

Henry,
That is a good point and definitely something to consider, but as you mentioned not many that have put them on have taken them off. :nixweiss: If you're satisfied w/the color of the badge most have left it on. I believe someone when these badges first came out changed the color to match their :bananarock: so there are options out there.

Memory challenged once again.  When I was on my way to Kansas the first time this summer, I had the hnor of meeting both MJZ and JR.  One of them.....might be both.....had the orange part changed to  :bananarock: .  Can't remember which one of them did it.  Doggone it.  This CRS is frustrating.

I haven't tried it 'cause I like mine (the oval SE Medalion) on there, but I've got some 3M adhesive remover that I feel would get it off the leather without damage.  It would dry the leather out, but it could be reconditioned easily.  I was trying to find a photo, but have had no luck...mine is centered on the rear of the TP lid.  Someone else put it in the center of the TP bottom rear.  Either place looks good, IMO.  If you clean the spot well with a 50/50 mix of rubbing alcohol and distilled water before applying, it's ON there.

Terry,
Did you have to shape your medallion a little to fit properly on the tour pak lid?  I was going to put mine on the lid but notice that the lid curves away slightly from both ends of the medallion when held on there by hand...and I don't want to have an "air gap" between the medallion and the leather.

Nope, Charlie....I just cleaned it well and stuck it on..pressed really hard on both ends when I put it on though, so might have conformed it a bit without really realizing...stuck solid though, and it's been well over a year now.

Thanks Terry,
That's where I really wanted to put mine, as it's more noticeable on the lid instead of the main body of the tour pak, but was concerned with the slight gap at the ends...sounds like it's not an issue. :)  Appreciate the info.

I enjoy the looks of the leather. When I travel, I remove the liners for more room. I also like the latch system better than the two latches - that I sometimes forgot to snap.

The thing that attracted me to the SECUSE2 in the first place was the leather TP. I like the way the latches work as well. My wife can actually open it at a redlight to toss in a jacket (or pull one out depending on the weather) without having to get off the bike. I also like the locking system which I am not sure you could utilize on the KTP. I do use the quick disconnect on it though and have not had the TP back on since I took it off 2 months ago or so. Went ahead and bought one of those UGLY luggage racks that is also quick connect just in case I need to haul something in a pinch. One drawback to the leather IMHO is that they seem to be much heavier. Anyone got some data on this?

Funny this comes up - I just had to replace the latch on my '06 tour pack and have been told so have others (San Diego dealer)...

Happened right before a big trip as well!

My disappointment with the leather TP was in the poor workmanship as well as the size. The way the leather is wrapped around the body and left to "drift" a bit without being permanently bonded to the body leaves a lot to desire. The capacity of the leather TP is also a huge gap over other tour paks. I still have mine but it hasn't been on my bike for over a year now. I'm not real sure why I'm keeping it but who knows, someday I may slip it on when trade day arrives again.

Now that looks great, plus you have the added utility of increased cargo capacity.  Great job.
