I know that they give the dealers bonuses and special deals, but in general what do we think the mark up is?

Before any other incentives were figured in the "cost" to my dealer on the 05 SEEG was $24,699.  If you assume the margins have stayed the same (or at least close) a little math provide pretty close estimates on other models.

Great question.  I've heard around 18-20%

     Probably closer to 18%, not including any volume incentives or holdback.  With all dealer discounts included, I would guess the average would be closer to 21%.  For the '08 CUSE3 (MSRP $34,995) that would work out to a total dealer gross profit of approximately $7k, not including commissions on financing, ESP, and anything else they can find to charge you for.  Pretty darn good day for the salesman and dealer.

I had one dealer start at $42K for an '08 CUSE3 (We almost fell over laughing) and another start at $37.9K. Got the one at $42K down to $36.5 for a Copper Caynon, so about $1k over MSRP and yes, it was a very good day for that sales rep. The other dealer that was asking $37.9, had just gotten the '08 in and still had an '07 Smurf on the showroom floor, but wouldn't deal on it on the '07. Still wanted MSRP. He also had an '07 and an '08 SE Dyna on the floor.

Others have answered with good info.  It varies some by bike/type/price but it runs around 20% (Ex. a $20 cost bike selling @ $24k).  Dealers have few incentives to go below MSRP especially on limited production bikes.  You should be able to find a CVO bike at or very near MSRP if you shop around some.  The dealers going 20% OVER MSRP - no idea why folks would pay that much.

I was in Salem HD in Elmer last weekend. They had just gotten in a Copper Caynon Ultra and uncrated it for me. That's where I also saw the '07.
